In the article below - it states that many people with Vitiligo have problems with their Liver. Sometimes all you need to do is to treat your weak/sick Liver - and the white patches will be gone !!
I have no liver deseases in family, don't drink,... but according to my osteopath i have a small liver. he tries to detoxify my liver... will be continued.
I too heard about this connection. I started taking an herb called picrorhiza which is a liver tonic. You're supposed to take it three times a day, and it is NOT CHEAP. I still have some but I stopped taking it because it was hurting my stomach. I didn't take it long enough to see any kind of results. It is an interesting though, I wonder if anyone here has been treated for liver problems.
The below possible link between Hepatitis C freaks me out because I work in the medical field and work a lot with liver patients... I think I will be getting some more bloodwork done....but I would think something abnormal would have shown up in my past labs? Oh well....whatever cards we are dealt in life we just have to deal with them...one day at a time! For now I will just think positive!!!!! ;)
A few years ago a possible link was made between having Hepatitis C, which affects the liver, and vitiligo. I have vitiligo and was treated for Hep C which it turns out I had for years before vitiligo showed up. I was told that my vitiligo would progress more quickly due to the treatment for the Hep C, which it did. However, Hep C will kill you whereas vitiligo will not so I opted for the treatment anyway. I encourage anyone with vitiligo to be tested for Hep C as the specialist that treated me was also a researcher and said for some people it can be a trigger for the immune system to attack melanocytes. As well, you may not know you have Hep C until it affects your liver enough that you become very sick.
If only it were that easy! No liver problems here and I have maybe a glass of wine once a year.
I do have a thyroid problem, Graves' Disease (hyperthyroidism), was diagnosed seven years ago and I spent nearly a week in the hospital where they did a barrage of tests aside from my diagnosis of Graves'. At the time of diagnosis I was probably 90-95% depigmented (I've had Vitiligo since 4-5 years old) and they told me that Graves' Disease caused my body to rapidly depigment any pigment that I had left. Prior to Graves', I was depigmented about 70%.
