Balance between treatment & no treatment

Hello. I am a new member grappling with how I want to pursue treatment for my vitiligo. I have had vitiligo for about 6 years, first spot on my underarm, then loss of pigment on my hands and feet, two spots in the corners of my mouth and now the underarm spot has spread into a netting. Overall, however, my vitiligo is probably classified as mild. I have sought out typical medical treatment and been treated at UCSF with steroids, laser, etc with minimal results. I have sought out alternative medicines (ex: acupuncture, massage therapy, vitamin supplements, diet changes) as well as therapy. While the alternative medicines really feel like the best and only solution, they have been difficult to manage. I feel that I become so overwhelmed with trying to implement diet changes, monitor changes, etc. that my thoughts then become solely focused on my vitiligo and its treatment. I then begin to realize that this focus is not healthy either and I slip right back into pursuing nothing at all. While I understand that there is no magic pill. I guess I'm looking for where to begin first, where I'm most likely to see changes - so that I can focus on one step at a time. I want to begin on the road to healing without it being the only focus of my life. Any suggestions?

  • I think Alternative treatment is best for vitiligo. Because of many reasons like
    More Cheaper than other treatments.
Apply only on the effected part.
    No side effects.
Cover the root causes of the disease.
I think the 3rd and 4th point are very beneficial for vitiligo treatment. Some time side effects of the medicine causes more increase in the skin condition vitiligo.
Another thing should be remember about vitilgo that is by which type of vitiligo you are suffering. See more about the vitiligo type on this blog and the causes of vitiligo.
  • Well i'm not gonna spend rest off me life trying to stop mine cuz it's spreading faster than it would repig so don't see the point. Guess maybe diff for women
  • Have you ever tried dead sea products. They are suposedly great for skin cures.
  • I'm so sorry I didn't see this when you posted it originally. The extent of my Vitiligo might be somewhat similar to yours, and I've pretty much just lived with it. I'm not sure anyone really has any "for sure" answers at this point.

I hope you'll get some other comments with some advice that we could both take!
