About Me:

Vitiligo started with adolescence at age 14. It was a slow progression until my 20's when major stressors entered my life. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroid at 35 and told that the two often go hand in hand. I opted not to go on thyroid meds until I was in my early forties when an intuitive friend told me if I didn't do something, I would go into early menopause. So, I bit the bullet and went on synthetic drugs but they made me feel horrible so I started doing my own research. I found Dr. David Brownstein and the Center for Holistic Medicine in West Bloomfield, MI about 30 minutes from where I live. I did not feel I had 6+ months to wait for an appt with him so made it with another doctor there. His book "Overcoming Thyroid Disorders" lead me on my current path. Around age 35 I also adapting a pescatarian diet, trying to eat from the earth and meditating which seem to have slowed progression down. I would say, after 43 yrs of living with Vitiligo, I have only 25-30% coverage. Living life as if the pigment loss does not matter seems to help too. In the meantime, I look for ways to try to reverse Vit. I know it can happen because I was super stressed back in 2018 when I was planning my wedding. I had 6 eye lashes on my left eye there were white but suddenly ALL OF THEM WERE! Yikes. I was NOT a happy camper. But within a short time after the wedding, honeymoon and work stresses subsided a bit, they reversed so that I was back to only 6 white eye lashes! I do not know what I did specifically but it reversed. I would say within 3 months or less. So, it can happen. I also have a friend that had it and somehow, she reversed it on her hands. Having it for her was much more devastating than mine was because hers came on midlife and I pretty much have had it my whole life. So THERE IS HOPE. We just have to find that golden elixir! I continue my search and will gladly share anything I find that works for me.
