About Me:

I am 24 years old and a student at a university in North Carolina. I am studying nutrition and foods with a concentration in dietetics. I became interested in nutrition when my vitiligo started appearing in late 2009 on my hands. I knew what it was because my mother also has had it since I could remember. While hers is currently not spreading, mine has been rapidly spreading ever since it appeared. I talk to other people about coping with it but since they can't really empathize, they always say to just embrace it. While I have not fully embraced it, I know that it is better than having a life threatening illness. I hope to make some friends that can help me and vice versa, through this site.

    Hi ashlyn, I have it on my hands and feet. I have a few other small spots. I kind of forget about it in the winter but now that is summer and I'm in Myrtle Beach I tend to stare at my hands. Being white, it's definitely not as noticeable as a black person but it's still there and affects me. If you ever need someone to talk to. I am here.
