Hello. Haven't been on this site in a while

Hi Vitiligo has been controlling my life for over 13 yrs now and it's only getting worse so I must change it somehow.  I plan on setting up an appointment with a dermatologist since my move to the Houston area.  Also plan on purchasing a UVB wand.   If anyone has any advice as far as doctors, treatments, or any use with UVB please let me know.  Or if there are any new developments for fighting this disease.

    Excerpt from his site:

    What Treatment Options Are Available?

The goal of treating vitiligo is to restore the function of the skin and to improve the patient’s appearance. Therapy for vitiligo takes a long time–it usually must be continued for 6 to 18 months. The choice of therapy depends on the number of white patches and how widespread they are and on the patient’s preference for treatment. Each patient responds differently to therapy, and a particular treatment may not work for everyone. Current treatment options for vitiligo include medical, surgical, and adjunctive therapies (therapies that can be used along with surgical or medical treatments).

    Hope this information is helpful!

  • We just went to a doctor yesterday; but they didn't seem to offer anything new or enlightening that we haven't heard before. We have tried several different doctors; but I think it's best to go with who you are comfortable with, not a particular name. Vitiligo runs in our family. I would just search until I find a good doctor. Good luck!
