Can someone explain to me how a doctor can diagnose using a Woods Lamp. My son's dermatologist was very against using it because she says it only tests for tinea versicolor. Everything I read says it could test for vitiligo. She showed me and said it looks like the vitiligo even on patches that were clearly eczema... Can eczema turn into vitiligo??? I am confused.

yep all of my vitiligo spots were preceeded by eczema in the same place. once there is inflammation there i think it makes it more likely to get vitilgo. interestingly I had been given steriod creams for these as well, which i later read can suppress the immune system reaction, and termporarily calm it down but then can pendulum and create more vitililgo elsewhere ( which is what happened to me).
Thank you Sonia!
Our derm used a Woods Lamp ... the skin with vitiligo glows bright white. I think, though, what convinced the derm that my daughters had Vitiligo was loss of pigment on the eyelids and halos around their moles. I do not know what eczema has to do with, sorry. I hope this helps.
