I hate when I hear people who don't have Vitiligo call it a cosmetic problem only. Don't they know this bothers some of us Emotionally, Psychologically, Physically and Spiritually our vitiligo goes way beyond the loss of pigmentation some of us stopped going outside or going to social events because of it. Some of us were very outgoing people until our Vitiligo started so when people who don't have Vitiligo say it's just a cosmetic thing I tell them they need to walk a mile in our shoes and maybe then they will know what we go thru on a daily basis, like the stares we get, the pointing and the whispering when they see us. Yeah this Vitiligo is Cosmetic My Ass ( Excuse me for that ) but I get so worked up inside when it comes to Vitiligo speaking up and protecting and defending others with it also ) !!!!!!

  • I agree wtih you a 100 % ----- exactly my thoughts
  • I saw Janine's video on youtube and I found them very interesting if I must say so myself I'm also inspired to make one on their too eventhough I had one right here on vitiligo friends but it was very brief because it was in the experimental phase with me as I was just getting used to that digital camera that day

  • O M G.... I become so flustered when I hear comments about how 'vitiligo is just a cosmetic issue', when in reality it may become a medical issue. We are at a higher risk for skin cancer since there is no protection from the sun rays in those areas that lack pigmentation. Also, the skin gets irritated and burns easily which becomes a medical issue. I agree with everything you have stated as I have had it since elementary school and kids can be cruel. Now in college, people are understanding however they still look. This is why I started a channel on youtube on my experience with vitiligo and makeup to help conceal. I'm no professional...LOL...However, I have learned alot.If you or anyone you know wants to check it out its "makeup4vitiligo"..
    • Thanks for the information Janine I'm going to check it out right now

    • thanks for reminding me of the hazardous stuff that can happen to us BECAUSE of our lose of pigment. i forgot about skin cancer which can turn into another kind of cancer if it spreads. my mom started out with skin cancer, spread to her lymph glands. fortunately after chemo, she's in remission now.
      • Marty our skin pigmentation is the only thing we have to protect us from the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun and without it we are exposed just as the earth is exposed without it's atmosphere

  • Carl, like anything, no one really doesnt know what its like till they have it or someone real close to them has to deal with the unwanted attention.

dont let it get you down dude, they have to be taught, thats all. so keep on enlightening the public.
