I know and I've heard it before. Vitiligo has no cure and doctors don't know why it gets worse. But we all have our own theories. Why do I have vitiligo, I will never know. But I personally think my vitiligo gets worse when I stress about having vitiligo and focus all my attention and time worrying about when or where it is going to expand. So I try not to worry and just let it be.
What is your personal theory??

i am not agree with you--- vitiligo has no cure,,,,, it has and i had seen number of people get cured. What i had observed is that majority of vitiligo patients are looking for instant results. If they don't get it instantly, they discontinue the treatment. And again going towards new treatment. So, i think that's the reason vitiligo spread more and more. I believe Stress is the key reason for spreading. Dissatisfaction from treatment leads towards more stress, so it will add more patches,,, i think its vicious cycle.
To conclude, I had seen people get cured, i meet those people who cured and talk with them also.
For me.....I'm not sure stress causes an increase. I have an incredibly stressful life, my daughter has brain cancer and my diabetic son is in renal failure, and my doc thinks my autonomic failure is turning into Parkinson's but my spots are actually getting better on my legs and at a standstill everywhere else. Mine seems to be seasonal, every spring I start itching and if its going to spread that's when it does it. I was very doubtful diet had anything to do with it until I went on a 9 week gluten free, sugar free and dairy free diet. My legs actually started repigmenting without pro topic or UVB. I've given up trying to figure it out, apparently I've got bigger problems, lol
I think it's just the disease running it's course.I had my own theories for the first couple of years when i was in denial about it, I always told myself it's stress, diet, low immunity, etc, but now I have just accepted it for what it is, it's a progressive condition that for the most part is unpredictable.
Stress, foods, hormones...you name it. That's the beauty of vitiligo.... It can be aggravated by so many things. I am currently being treated for my thyroid, adrenal insufficiency, and low cortisol - all of these can aggravate, cause vitiligo. Trying my hardest to reverse this beast from the inside.
I think certain food causes mine vitiligo to spread and also messes the body system i.e. symtoms such as wind, rumbling stomach and intestine, constipation, tiredness etc.. therefore its important to identify that certain food and then restore the whole body imbalance system and repigmentation will naturally come (I believe).
But the most difficult thing is finding that certain food
Marcela i think you are right, the more stress we have to more likely it is to spread. Making peace with vit is prob out best chance of repig but easier said than done sometimes x
Well done khan for being optimistic and making goals. I have noticed through of of research that for most ppl who have successful re pigmentation it is extremely slow but lasting so it sounds like you have a good chance. For Me even if I see one or two tiny spots I get excited because then I KNOW it is still possible to repig no matter how slow. Good luck! :-)
hi, my personal theory about not only vitiligo but about any disease is "if there is a disease ,there is a cure " we only need to find it out ,think out of the box and keep your self motivated .I am giving my self a target of getting rid of vitiligo within 371 days ,lets see how it goes ;)
Let me tell you the dynamics a bit. Normally stress should not affect your vitiligo or your system. Stress is something very good increasing your survival if you have a shock of something.
So why do we have viti patches when we get stressed then? Your system is already on the verge of collapsing, or another way of saying is very vulnerable before stress (mainly each stress event is energetically costly and suck up your vital resources, you have accumulated bit by bit). It is like you are on the cliff and if there is a really strong wind than you might -unwillingly- get a flight. So what you have to do is that you need to move back from the cliff as much as possible. If you do not do anything, even if there is no wind, the forces pushing you close to the cliff will continue pushing and you will get the flight anyway in the end. This is very simple prensible in managing animal health. It is very true as a chinese saying that a bit of prevention is much better than full of treatment.
By the way the stress is not only emotional stress (yes i,t is very heavy), stress giving by diseases like cold also leads to increased patches as well. For example now in the northern hemisphere winter is coming and temperature shocks are very bad. So you need to have a strong immunity these days. Days are getting short, so need to get sun at least 10-20 min/day.
