After getting vitiligo I said too myself this has got to be the worst thing in the world that can happen to a person until a friend told me about a movie called the Elephant Man starring Anthony Hopkins & John Hurt, that movie made me so sad because of his condition I almost forgot about my vitiligo because looking at the Elephant Man movie had put my vitiligo in perspective. I felt so sorry about him I think I cried the whole movie and every time I watched it and too be honest I didn't feel sad about my vitiligo anymore, because his situation was 1,000 times worst than mines or yours some times we just have to be thankful that it's only vitiligo because the Elephant Man's skin disorder was much worst than ours but he still tried to live a normal life so if your ever feeling sad or depressed about your vitiligo I urge you to check out the Elephant Man and I promise you that you will probably never complain about your vitiligo ever again !!!!!!!!

Heather I promise you if you watch this movie it will put your vitiligo in a different perspective and things that this man went thru he didn't feel sorry for himself or felt pitty he just wanted to live his life the best he could and he did that to the end, we all could learn something from the Elephant Man ( John Merrick )

we have to stop looking at our Vit as being something bad, then people never words wont affect us. we cant let their ignorance get to us.

Marty I agree with you but some people are not that strong enough to see it like that, Iv'e always told people to stop looking at their vitiligo as something being bad but we all look at things differently from different perspectives so it's up too each individual to consider their vitiligo as bad some people still can't come to terms with having vitiligo and others like you and myself still continue on with life, each and every individual handles it differently and all we can do is sit back and leave them be they can choose how to deal with their vitiligo on their own accord because we all deal with it on different levels

Heather I'm a very emotional person that movie made me so sad but I got courage and inner strength from watching it and maybe you will too and I hope they do have it on netflix because it's worth watching and you will never forget that movie I promise
John Merrick the one who the film was based on was a 19th century man with the condition called Elephantitis which is a form of edema of the skin a very serious condition all he wanted to do was live a normal life and what he went thru made me put my situation into perspective my vitiligo is nothing compared to what this poor man went thru. They say that God don't put more weight on our shoulders than we can handle so even with the vitiligo there's people who are going thru something worst than you and believe it or not there are people who are going thru more than what he did so we still owe a great debt of gratitude to God for giving us life and it may not be party we hoped for but while we are here we might as make the best of it because life is so short
Wow! That is so true Carl. Sometimes we feel like our problems are the biggest problems in the world, but it could be worst. I'm thankful for my health--both mental and physical.
