I recently stumbled across scholar.google.com
I have to share because the search tool is rich with vitiligo research studies.
A couple of interesting studies with some quotes include the following.
Homocysteine levels in blood and the severity of vitiligo before and after narrowband ultraviolet B phototherapy.
“We found that the mean serum level of homocysteine was significantly higher in patients with vitiligo”
“NB-UVB phototherapy resulted in a significant decrease in the levels of serum homocysteine.”
“Hence, it can be concluded that elevation in serum homocysteine may be a precipitating factor in the pathogenesis of vitiligo.”
Comparison of plasma malondialdehyde, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, hydroxyproline and selenium levels in patients with vitiligo and healthy controls
"Our results showed increased malondialdehyde, hydroxyproline and glutathione peroxidase activity levels in plasma of vitiligo group"
"Support of antioxidant system via nonenzymatic antioxidant compounds and antioxidant enzymes may be useful to prevent of melanocyte degeneration which occur due to oxidative damage in vitiligo."
