Most diseases and disorders are based on something that a person has but vitiligo is based on something that we don't have and that's pigmentation, I often hear people say that there vitiligo has spread but to be honest it's not spreading it's only decreasing in more area's of your skin can't nothing spread if there's no pigmentation it's only your your remaining pigmemtation that's decreasing because the skin is not producing any more melanin (Pigmentation) what ever the true cause of our bodies not making anymore pigmentation is a mystery for now but with more dermatological studies and expermintation I 'm very optimistic for a vitiligo cure in the near future .

Ok....so here is my understanding of Vitiligo. Your immune system goes into overdrive or malfunctions and no longer recognizes the melanin or pigment in your skin so it attacks and destroys it like it would any other "foreign" object in the body. So, if that is the case, then it would be spreading. That is my understanding.

That's what they say Cara when they mention the immune system goes into overdrive and no longer recognizes the pigment in the skin, It's treats the skin color like it's an invader from another world and in actuality the vitiligo is not spreading it's just that the pigmentation is decreasing and since no more color is being put into the skin what we have left is slowly disappearing and as it disappears more and more it gives one the illusion that the vitiligo is spreading but it's our color that's decreasing
Im not agree with u , most dieses are about ting missing most chronic dieses are about missing some enzaym or hormone or the cell is not working properly. If you see most handkaped ppl is about missing, blind ,deaf……
Vitiligo is the white milky patches or spots ..when we say spreading ,increasing, decreasing it is correct coz we are talking about vitiligo not our normal pigmented skin.

You can disagree with me because it's a free world but the reason why you have milky white patches is because there's no pigment in the skin and without pigment the skin is milky white so when you have vitiligo there's parts of your skin that have pigmentation and parts that don't and the parts that don't have color is caused by the decreased amount of color (Melanin) so that's why I say Vitiligo is a disorder that's caused more by something we don't have which is Melanin and that is what's responsible for giving our skin color even if your skin is pale you still have a small amount of pigmentation in it unless your a albino
