Has anyone tried a vegan or vegetarian diet? I read it may be beneficial for repigmenting and also I know the story from Emily's vitiligo included a vegan diet which helped her repigment. I am thinking about trying the diet. Please let me know if any one has tried it and whether you think it helped or not. Thanks :)

What other supplements do you take? and what foods do you use to replace the protein? Very true about eating junk food! I am a very healthy eater I am already dairy free and have been for 2 years and have been gluten free for 2 months now. I am really into eating a lot of antioxidants since there have been studies showing increased oxidative stress in individuals with vitiligo. I only eat chicken for dinner thats the only meat I eat so it should be easy to cut it out, but I just want to make sure I get enough protein and nutrients. Yea I agree meat isn't the cause of it. But I hope that being vegan will just make it easier on my body and hopefully help me repigment. The vegan diet is supposedly beneficial to those with autoimmune diseases and may help those with them. Also I read online that meat stays in our systems longer and slows down the digestive process which can be associated with an increase in toxins. (not sure if thats true but I just read that online somewhere.)
The most important is that we are comfortable with our diet and enjoy different healthy recipes .. …. There are different theories about meat but don`t worry our body process every ting to the last limit ,the key is not to eat heavy in the evening specially like pork meat it has high inflammation should be avoided .
BTW study show that we vities has less vitamin B12 , may be our body process it differently, the only good sorce of vitamin B12 is meat.
using too much soya milk is not good either.
the key to keep balance
@william the best omega 3 sorce is fish and flaxseed, almond, egg(farm egg)..Oliven oil is omega 9 but it is good it change some of the omega 6 to omega 3. it helps to keep the balance in the body..that is why it is advised every where.
Use vergin Olive oil on every food you eat not cooked is best…you can put on carrot and cellery juce that is the best juce for vities.
They say that is enough ...adding more omega 3 source food and reducing omega 6 is not bad,...omega 6 oils are all fried oils vegitable oils.... we get more than enough O 6 any way ...raps (canola)oil is good.
I don’t know how to explain this, There is no evidence that changing diet can
repigment vitiligo or prevent new areas from appearing.
Eat what you like healthy …About Emily ..it is because she was sensitivities to milk and gluten products …
It is good to avoid if you have some sensitivity to some food . most vitis are vegiterians doctors recommend to eat meat because in most case we have less vitamin B.
Believe me I have used so much time to find about which diet is good for us.
The only advice is eat varaity and moderate …get enough omega 3 ,enjoy life and live healthy.
Sorry to hear that it is spreading faster. I would like to start the vegan diet but I am scared it could make it worse, but some people say it makes it better..so thats why I am undecided about trying the diet lol. How long have you been vegetarian?
According to the story of about Emily, the vegan diet has helped quite a few people repigment. Her family said several people emailed or mailed them about their success with the diet. She is only VEGAN and not gluten free. She was not tested as allergic or sensitive to milk. Her father stated that those with autoimmune diseases are often benefited from vegan diets he references a doctor Mcdougall. Maybe you didn't read her whole book. There are people who have repigmented with changing their diet. Someone on this website posted about repigmenting with the gluten free diet almost immediately after switching, it is in one of the fairly recent forums.
I was just wondering if anyone on here tried the vegan diet since there are a lot of people signed up to this site.
Hey Kelly, I am trying a vegan diet but only started 3 weeks ago. I actually enjoy meat fre and the only thing I really miss is cheese. I have lost 5lb and feel great so my view is why not give it a try...what do you have to lose?!! I think though you need to do it for a long time ie a year at least to see if it makes any difference. I am throwing everything at it ie UVB, Vits, gingko, protopic (when I cang et it!) and change to vegan, plus I am juicing carrot and celry daily and we will see what happens. Good luck

Hi. Thanks for posting. :) Keep us updated on your results! Has yours gotten any better or worse since the switch? I want to start the vegan I am hopeful it help me repigment, but a little scared it may make it worse, but maybe as long as I get the right nutrients it will be okay. What do you eat to replace the meat/protein? Do you eat a lot of soy products? I was thinking of adding nuts, legumes and beans and a little soy to help boost my protein. Are there any other nutrients we need to worry about getting that we don't get on the diet? (I know b12 but I do take a supplement for that)
Kelly, it is too early for me to tell if it makes a difference or not. my spots (some are very large i.e. my whole chest area is depigmented) are turning pink following UVB although this may just be burning! I think my knees are improving a bit but not sure. This may have nothing to do with teh diet though. I eat a really varied diet and am enjoying trying new recipes. I have posted a link to a fab site for vegan and veggie recipes...the lentil burgers were great. I know my digestive system is massivly improved since cutting out meat and dairy so that must be a good thing anyway.
I am also doing Bikram Yoga once a week which is great for toxin release
I am not being totally fanatical about this and I do occasionally have a bit of cheese....oh and have more wine than I should but life is too short to give up wine and us Brits do like our booze! I have the mindset that if it helps my vitiligo then great but if not I will still be much healthier anyway. good luck and lets keep each other posted
