  • UVB has helped me a lot with my vitiligo! I've been using it for 4 years now and I don't have that many white spots so I think the UVB slowed down the spread as well as repigmenting some spots. :)
  • I have been taking B12 and Folic Acid since I was diagnosed 8 years ago.... still progressing!! :( Hopefully you will have better success!! :)
    • Hey William

Trying Protopic on the face is not a bad idea ,actually that is the only thing you can do.. many get good result but not me…may be I haven’t been peatent , forget what you read about black box ting, I have asked one of the leading professors about the risk…he said no problem at all even kids can use it .

Protopic has been used for other skin condition on the kids.. it is safe ….that is why doctors prescribe it.

It works only on face ..I think it is possible to combine it with NB UVB but you have to talk to your derm ,I know there is new trial about combining and it gives good result.

Just watch out not to use it at the same time.

The only bad ting I experienced with protopic is the burning feeling when you drink alcohol, it goes away but , you can ask ur doctor about it.

If you are lucky Protoic can help you ,,,you have to give it a time atleast 3-4 months to see good result, if it doesn`t help within 6 months ..i don’t think it has a point to continue

      Good luck !

  • Bamsegutt, Thanks for your reply. I have had a perscription for protopic for about 10 months. After reading the posts and remember my doctors advice I started Protopic last night. I put on face spots and hands which have small spots. I am trying to repigment face or atleast stop from spreading. I hope to see clinual trial drug work and can do that procedure next year. What do you think about me trying Protopic I trust your opinion! I really don't want my Vit to continue to spread on my face without trying something. Also most of my facial hair is white in my Vit on my face and don't know if that matters, Let me know what you think!:)
  • Thanks for the advice.... it's nice to hear, but often hard to follow through with. It's tough being a 30 year old mother with this kind of condition. All I wanto to do is play with my kids, go on vacations, and enjoy life; yet I fear it!! The sun is my constant enemy, sunscreen and all. It makes me feel so different from everybody else else. I am envious of those who do not have to deal with it. I didn't until I was 23 myself and it's hard to cope with; even after all this time.
    • Hi Kimberly, I feel the same, I did manage to cope with it quite well up until this summer when new spots have appeared all over my chest which is difficult  to cover in the summer.I used to love the summer now I hate having to apply all the sun block just to go outside.I have started taking B12 folic acid and kelp tablets hoping it will stop them getting worse. It seems to make me feel better knowing I am taking something that may work.
  • I ended up giving it up!!! I had numerous sinus infections this fall/winter and the medication made it difficult to contiue treatment without burning. I am now 7 months pregnant and have decided to hold off until after the pregnancy. I am still torn on what to do though because my vitiligo is so bad. It almost looks better without treatment because I have naturally fair skin, although I tan really easy in the summer. With treatment, it became VERY noticable!!! Hard to cope with.
    • till you can resume, use high SPF sunscreen (100+) which u need for you unprotected areas anyway... but thru it all, dont stress over it... you have lovely babies to raise. if you're gonna have an illness, this is the best one to have... no pain. no bother.  and dont disrupt from your ability to care for your children. ;-)
  • Thank you so much for the advice Taylor. I have started treatment and think that I am going to stick with it as long as I can. Hopefully I will have some success with it. About 50% of my face is depigmented, as well as my neck, chest, arms and hands. I have a few spots on my legs and feet. Time will tell...... Hopefully I will have the same positive experience that you have had. Thanks again for opening up!!!!:)
    • Hi Kimberly!  I know it has been some time since this post but have you seen any results?!
