Think I've Decided

Ive been doing research on Protopic since the derm wants me to try it.

He wouldnt really go into detail on the side effects..I havent started it yet

or for that matter even gotten it yet. But it scares the s*** out of me!

I'm really thinking I don't want to try it..that I'm not that upset about

having this enough to risk my health like that. What do you all think?

I've read so many mix things about Protopic.

And a question..does itchiness go with having vit? and is it a sign

of an outbreak coming? Because I swear I'm a lot more itchier then I

was before Vit showed up on me. So was wondering about it.

  • Hi Sarah. It's not always the case, but I often feel itchy in the area before a new vitiligo patch forms - most notably on my legs. Maybe the trauma of stratching accelerates the vitiligo, or maybe it's just a coincidence, not sure.
  • Can anyone describe Protopic's side effects?
  • Let me just add - almost all of the side effects I have heard are associated with steroid creams, It is said not to apply it on large areas of vit. It is also said not to apply steroid cream for more than 3 weeks consecutively. BUT Protopic is not a steroid based cream.

  • I am with you, I got a script for Protopic 1 year ago and haven't started. I just have so many questions about using long term. If I repigment and then stop using and the Vit. comes back then you have to re-start again on Protopic. So I am not sure if it is worth using if not a permanant solution. Alot of people on here do use though and so everyone is different.
  • i have mixed feelings about protopic too. I expressed my concerns to my derm but she didnt raise any concern because i'm applying it to fairly small areas only once a day. however, the long term consequences still bother me.

I never experienced any itchiness when i apply protopic, that may be the start of an allergic reaction.

    • I havent even tried it yet.. I was asking about the itchiness in general as part of the Vit
