I like to do the Mystic Tan. I would try the light first and then go up to medium or dark depending on how the color is. I usually add the hyper tan and do a boost of color to the solution. I am not sure where you live but I do it at Palm Beach Tan. I have also done airbrush tan and that works well also. I feel like I have tried everything....I have so many self tanners in my bathroom cabinet! :)
Try out Sally Hansans Air Brush Legs in light glow. I think that would work for you because of your fair skin. Or you could just use a sunless tanner for three to four days like Jergens natural glow in fair to light. I like to use it because the tanning effect is not extreme but it does do a good job at blending in the two colors. I would advice applying 1-2 think layers once or twice a day. Make sure to wash hand well afterwards to remove any tanning color.
