I think everybody here can agree with me that stress is a major part of our daily lives no matter if it's the job, family, relationship, the economy or whatever we all have some stress in our life and to have vitiligo along with this stress really makes matters worse they say that stress causes our white spots to increase or as some people would say it causes our brown spots to decrease it don't matter how you look at it. having vitiligo is no fun and stress also causes other problems like high blood pressure and other medical risk, the key to keeping your vitiligo from spreading so fast is to keep less stress in your life and do what you have to do to make your life a little easier and try to eliminate your stress or at least try to reduce it

I agree with you completely, but funnily enough (or not) my new dermatologist told me stress, alcohol and a persons diet has no affect on vitiligo in the slightest... I couldn't believe my ears... x
Thailer... doctors dont know it all. (some dont know anything, as it's their first contact with Vit.
the people you want to talk to are right here. your fellows 'sufferers'. people on here hve had this from a few months to many decades. and the combinded knowledge on here is better then what the doctors are pulling up off the internet or out of their medical journals.
stress is a MAJOR froce in all auto immune diseases. many people on here can point to a mental or physical stressful moment that happened rioght before their Vit became hyperactive.
alcohol, i dont know... but i know alcohol DoES affect your immune system. (when i was younger, i alwasy caught something after a night of drinking)
diet affects everything our body does, especially our immune system.
sounds to me like you need a new dermatologist. this one knows nothing about Vit and will steer you wrong.

I was thinking the same. I went in there with high hopes as my first appointment with him went really well (the doctor before was even worse) and I actually thought he knew where I was coming from. But I really was surprised by what he said, which really knocked me a bit. But yes your right, I'd rather speak to and learn from the people who really know, and that's everyone here! :)
Carl: Good point... Stress can cause numerous problems... I know when I stopped working out a lot (that is, lifting weights) because I hurt my back, it seemed to spread more rapidly. It's hard to keep stress out of one's life... Any suggestions???
Well my doctor was telling me about stress on yesterdays visit. I told I didn't think I was stressed so what the hell, pass me a blunt an a shot of 'tron!
Needless to say, she didn't find it funny and gave me a lecture on exchanging one set of problems for another. Geez no sense of humor.
@Dr Vivek- I wholehearted agree that starting vit changes increases stress, but also anxiety, depression, and a sense of worthlessness. Well maybe that's just me. But forums and coomunitcating to others with the same affliction does help ease those feeling greatly.
stress can only precipitate an auto immune disease, while it is known that vitiligo is an auto immune disease,
its easy to blame stress with any disease per se but there has to be an initiating factor ,and stress can trigger these diseases, the presence of vitiligo itself increases the stress. and adds to the spread of vitiligo
I agree about stress. My Vit came during the most stressful period of my entire life. Its been a few years, and as I relax with life and enjoy more moments, I slowly see the color closing back in. I tried everything imaginable to treat it, and nothing has worked as much as NOT stressing.
I think stressors, no matter how big or small are just an invevitable part of life and things that can't be avoided.

Stress can't be avoided but it can be decreased by limiting the amounts of drama in your life that causes stress in the first place because it's just not good for our health and especially if you have vitiligo
