  • skin grafting for segmental vitiligo is not a good option
i have been doing melanocyte transplant for segmental vitiligo for the last 12 years with an excellent success rate of over 90 percent
face always gives good results for melanocyte transplant surgery,
however with vitiligo surgery works only when the vitiligo has stopped spreading for at least 1-2 years and help you to recover from your existing patches, why surgery is required is because medical treatment fails to provide pigmentation in all patients,
the question though logical is why go in for surgery if there is a tendency to get patches in future?
the answers lies in the fact that whats bothers you now is the present patches which require pigmentation,so combining medicines and surgery it is possible for you to get rid of the present patches, with advances in modern medicines it is possible for better treatment options to evolve in future,we are now trying out stem cell therapy for vitiligo,
you can consider melanocyte transplant surgery as your best bet
you can look up at my web site www.noblevitiligoclinic.com to see some of our pictures.

  • what happens when after u gt the skin graft, the vit spreads larger then the graft??? now u got a donut thing going. are you gonna graft everywhere ur skin tone fades???? its not like it happens in one area and that it.

its like tattooing over a vit area.... then the area spreads larger then the tat....

i'd rather wait till im paler then force a total depig.
    • Bamsegutt, I have had vit about 10 monts now all of it are on my right side facial area some on the eye lid. I been using rotopic twice daily and uvb every others day. my derm told me i have segmental vitiligo for the first three weeks it spread very fast now has it been stable for the last 9 months or so.
      • stay in a calmer, more zen frame of mind and i bet'cha it wont spread much... it seems stress and high/strong emotions get our auto immune systems to speed up. mind has been spreading on my head for the last 3 1/2mos cause of a strong relationship breakup. hopefully if i can settle into a new one things will calm down.
        • Hi ,Jimmi I am not a doctor but as far as I know you have tried two of the safest treatments protopic and UVB it didn`t help , you have stable segmental vitiligo and you want to try some ting that give result and your dr recommend you skin grafting , he is right coz you have stable segmental vitiligo this is good alternative, what I mean is it is better with melanocyte transfer …talk to your dr about the other cell therapies and make your choice. Most cell thearapies has 60-80 % chance of repigmentation if you are lucky you can get 100% too…. By now there is no any treatment which garants 100% repigmentation .

The worst one is just to sit and wait the miracle cure ,,,I don`t think there will come a cure which heals all in a short time ..since no one knows the exact cause it will not be easy to find a cure but we are lucky there are different treatments which works for some people ,as long as we try patently one at a time we will get one which works for us,,,, vitiligo is individual some thing which works for some one doesn`t work for others .just keep on trying there are many people who has regimented, those who don’t give up will succeed at last.

  • Skin graft is not that much popular any more coz the donor part of skin can develop vitiligo and it is not shure it works , now a days people use Melanocyte transfur, cheaper in India and Korea , the latest and most giving one is cell therapy from your own hair it is only in Europe (Swiss) , I wrote own topic about it.
    Good luck!

    • Thank you Bamsegutt for your reply. I too interested in mktp procedure but it only available at Henry Ford hospital at Michgan. recently talked with the local derm he said he can do skin graft for me.
      • I wouldn`t advice you to take skin grafting at a local derm who come up as an alternative solution “that he can do for you”, I don`t know your derm but if he is known to do that in ur town then you can take a chance, Normally you go to professionals who are known for skin grafting and melanocyte transfer the more they do it the better they are.

BTW what kind of vitiligo do you have? I mean… is it segmental or general . It must be stable otherwise the antibodies will attack for sure the new outsider cell.
If you live in US ,you don`t have many alternative, I would advice you Mktp in H.F hospital , they transfer all the necessary cells , the result is slow comparing to the one in Swiss.

The right ting is that you try some thing as long as you can afford it and pray so that God help you.
What ever you do,,, wish you good luck!
