I have vit since I was 15yrs old initially it was just my legs could easily hide last year it started on my hands( I am 28 now) a accident caused a small patch on my forehead.. initially I was very disturbed (used concealing creams for a while) stopped going out stopped hangin around most of my good friends didn't care a damn about it and accepted. some ppl hesitate or don't want to shake hands with me.
One day I thought why in the world should I care about such ppl, you do wat u want, u live the way u want. ITS YOUR LIFE... u can't expect all the ppl in the world to accept you.
Now I am back to normal.. I have a JUST DON'T CARE ATTITUDE and that's how everyone should be.
Personally I think Vit is impossible to cure ( I have tried Ayurveda, allopathy and unani) except homeopathy.. some traditional Indian medicines help so that vit does not spread that is what we need to do and that is all we can do.. STOP its SPREAD.

Hey !! I wouldn't want to go as far as to say Vit is impossible to cure !! I am presently using an over-the counter ointment and it seems to work for me. So, don't give up !!
[As for Ayurveda treatment - it could work - provided you follow the strict diets those docs "prescribe" and apply the medicines as often as they tell you to - which is the hardest to do !!].
Some people do display a certain phobia(fear) about a simple hand shake. My vit is 50% up my arms and 100% on my hands does tend to freak some people out. I don't look back and worry about it if my hand shake is ignored.
I figure we can either embrace what we can't change or live a lonely life. I keep my eye on the ball keep my focus and let the good times roll.
If they spent half the money they do to keep a face from getting all wrinkly and old we would have been cured long ago.
Hey
Yeah I agree vit is not curable YET, but why don't you try conventional treatments? I'm sure one of them might work for you... at least it might slow down its progression. Also many people said that protopic works better on the face.
As for your question, no we shouldn't feel conscious about vit but it's just not simple as that, and everyone deals with it in their own way so I guess there's no simple answer to it. I admire your positive attitude and yeah you're totally right, why should we care about some shallow and ignorant people? IGNORANCE IS A DISEASE.

Anyway, all the best !!
Which OTC ointment? How long have you been using it?
