Hi everyone,
I am trying to decide to start back up with the protopic for my 5 year old daughter. We used it when she was first diagnosed, but stopped after a brief period of time. At this point, the vit. has spread over most of her legs, her hands, feet, neck, and the underside of her arms. I was going to start treatment again after the winter knowing that she would get some sunlight during the day, but since her limbs, the parts that a visible to the outside world are getting less spotty, I don't know if it is worth pursuing. A part of me is actually hoping the vit. continues to depigment the brown areas so she can look normal. I feel awful thinking this, and I am feeling alot of mom guilt. At this point, she is not bothered by the vit. She goes to daycare, has friends, and is very loved. I am hoping you can give me some feedback - thoughts, opinions - something to help me find the right path.

I would suggest to read up on protopic since it has been known to cause skin cancer.
If your daughter is comfortable in her own skin then there is nothing to worry about. What matters is her happiness. You sound like such a good mother! I applaud you for your care and concern.
Dear Janne, Protopic is not known to cause cancer,,, yes it has got black box” warning by FDA that it can cause cancer with mass and long very usage…they just come to that conclusion after testing it in the lab. With ton of protopic on mice .
This is typical warning or side effect of drugs, it has no problem as long as you followed the doctors instruction. Your dr will not give you some thing that can cause cancer.
I have asked leading vitiligo reaserchers , they say Protopic has been in use all over the world for many years” NO PROBLEM FOR KIDS TO USE IT”
My advice is try is for about 3-6 months under derm following , it help some ppl on the face … I am unlucky it dosen`t help me.
Protopic and NB UVB is something we should try before we go to next stage.
Good luck!
