  • Kelly my vitligo started segemntal and I regimented very slowly using nutrition and dead sea mud packs, and sun exposure and super clean diet. The best thin I have read is dr montes book :vitligo a nutritional approach. I know for sure that repigmenting is possible without machines or drugs just nutrition, minerals and sun but is SLOW!! xx good luck
  • segmental vitiligo is common, unfortunately does not respond well to medical treatment, does well with surgery though

  • Hi Kelly,

For many years my vitiligo was only on the right side of my body (from early childhood to maybe age 24). Then it started spreading and eventually began to appear like mirror images on both sides of my body. Not sure if that is typical, but thats how mine progressed

  • I have vitiligo for many years however, recently when I went to my my dermetologist she said that unlike your grandson has segmented vitilito.  She said it will only be on one side of his body unlike mine which seems whatever happened to oneside happened to the other side.  His will not spread like mine but she did say it was harder to treat.  My granson is now 8 and has had vitiligo since he was 5.  I know how hard it has been for me, but I try hard to say I am who I am and that I'm a good person no matter what my skin looks like.

Wish You all the best and have a great day- You are a great person

  • I don't know the difference of Segmental and non Segmental can someone pls help me out, I want to go for Melanacyte Transplant and the doc told it can cure segmental vitiligo 100%. I'm confused!
    • Segmental is just one side of the body that has vitiligo,I just have it on left side of my body.
  • I've got it similarly. My right leg (shins) and foot, abdominal area, spot on back, elbows, spot on sternum.

Some has went away with like repeated burning in the sun, used to have it on my forehead and shoulders..as a kid it got blistered and I would scrape at it and would take the burnt skin off.Ya I was a kid

My left side doesn't have it as bad..small spot on shins and foot, elbow. Seems to mirror itself.
Definitely feel your pain, I also have hooked to tattoos to cover up. Whole left sleeve done to cover up insides of upper arms and elbows, and a large upper back piece as well.
Feel your pain though, I started getting it when I was like 11-13? Ten next thing I know it's all over. Some gets worse, some goes away. It's wierd. It sucks
    • I have it on the same areas that you got. It sucks now when summer is coming because they are more noticeable as the skin around them get darker...and living in Fl I can't wear long sleeves..when everybody is in t-shirts..

  • FYI. My 9-year old had generalized Vit on few areas. Luckily, Protopic took care of it. Now, dealing with semental portion (small island) on the ankle, right on the bone. Plus a dot or two on the foot. The island used to be twice the size when it first showed up. We are seeing progress with Protopic, but sloooooow though. The other foot is completely normal. So for now, putting trust on our Derm and Protopic. We have no choice anyway at this stage.
