When i got on the bus today, i saw a woman with vitiligo and i didnt feel alone like i usually do. She was sleepin, so i couldnt say anything to her. But i didnt feel so bad about myself this time...

That just happened to me! Which is strange - I'm in bit smaller of a city. I just wanted to hug her, and tell her ... 'I KNOW'. But, let's face it, that would have been a bit strange. So, I smiled. :D
I met this beautiful hispanic woman with vit and she approached me.She started asking questions because her vit hit when she was 37. Her husband left her for a younger woman because of it.JERK! I told to her to look up this site and use the internet for info. I really couldn't comfort her issues with vit but at least she told me she would look it up.
I usually start the the conversation with,"I see we have something in common",that is an ice breaker and starts the conversation.
You maybe should have tried to share a comment with her. Might have helped her to feel not so alone. The worst to happen, she would say Go Away. But the best to happen, she would say, Bless Your Heart, you made a bad day into a good one and you are my new best friend.
my grandmother had it, unfortunately i didnt get to talk to her about it before she died, and afterwards i found out i'm most likely have it next. (which now i do). Fortunately i work with someone who has it too, so i dont feel so alone.
it's not actually a small population... 1-2% of approx 7billion people on the planet is still approx 70 million people.
I love seeing someone else with vitiligo. I always want to talk to that person but don't know how to approach them. I recently did a Sprint Triathlon last weekend and was so happy to see a woman with extensive vitiligo do the Half Ironman. I always worry that when my body is mostly vitiligo patches that I won't be able to do outdoor activites due to sun. But she had some special clothing and seemed not to be burned at all after being outside in the sun for more than 5 hours straight.
Dear Jennifer I see other people with vitiligo quite frequently I guess because I live in a large city there's over 1.5 million people here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and if you live in a large city like mines your odds of seeing another person with vitiligo is great and despite vitiligo being rare, from time to time you will come across others with it during your many travels
I've never spoken to or seen anyone with vitiligo.Im now 23 and i've just discoverd this site existed!!..it is comforting and good to kno how others feel and deal with vitiligo....and Carl,i've read some of your blogs...they are very helpful and true and I look forward to reading more..
