I was reading the bible and what it was saying about skin diseases this information was in Leviticus chapter 13 verse 2 "When anyone has a swelling or a rash or a bright spot on his skin that may become an infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest and it has been broken down to many meanings listed below New International Version (©1984)
"When anyone has a swelling or a rash or a bright spot on his skin that may become an infectious skin disease, he must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest.
New Living Translation (©2007)
"If anyone has a swelling or a rash or discolored skin that might develop into a serious skin disease, that person must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons.
English Standard Version (©2001)
“When a person has on the skin of his body a swelling or an eruption or a spot, and it turns into a case of leprous disease on the skin of his body, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests,
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
"When a man has on the skin of his body a swelling or a scab or a bright spot, and it becomes an infection of leprosy on the skin of his body, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests.

I have actually come to a fair understanding of Leviticus 13 and Vitiligo condition, I really dont think they were talking about Vitiligo here becasue reading deeply you find out that its quite confusing and contradicting because form verse 2 ......"When a man has on the skin of his body a swelling, a scab or a bright spot, and it becomes on the skin of his body like leprous sore,.......I ask is Vitiligo like a sore let a alone leprous sore? Does Vitiligo cause a swelling of any sort? Mine didnt and majority of people who has shared their story with me didnt experience swelling as well
Then in Verse 4, "But if the bright spot is white on the skin of his body, and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and its hair has not turned white...........With this I can say again, Vitiligo is not being talked about here because Bible I know is always clear on terms. Contradicting here, though when mine started it was deeper than my skin on a side of my forehead for about two weeks, again the white hair, majority of people with Vitiligo usually get premature graying of hair, there are still people with severe Vitiligo without a strand of gray hair.....sooooo?
There may just be another pigmentary disorder that has such sympthoms mentioned here other than Vitiligo, where did the name leprosy came out from at that time and no other skin condition name was mentioned.
Can it possibly be that it wasn't an issue then because you see where they said that if it not leprosy the person will not be isolated. Leprosy I see in Nigeria are not the white types, but the types that damages the feet and hands, I heard that there is much of white leprosy in India. Vitiligo has no connection with Leprosy I believe, but for maybe the pigmentary disorder present in some of it.
Two persons have shared their experiences with me how they were talked into believing they have leprosy by some spiritual persons and they ended up in Leprosy clinics taking their medication, before they started reacting to it......
Scientists probably sworn into action to find a cure for Leprosy because it was mentioned in the Bible and maybe because its contagious, highly disfiguring and disables the sufferers at a short time
Leprosy is caused by a bacteria. Once antibiotics that killed bacteria were discovered it was easier to find a cure for leprosy. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder. Researchers still don't fully understand why the immune system decides to attack its host. It's much more complicated than finding something that will kill bacteria. It has nothing to do with people not caring or there being no money in it etc. Celiac disease, schizophrenia, Crohn's Disease and many more are disorders that affect less than 1 percent of the population but researchers are looking for cures for these and more. I, too, become impatient that no cure has been found but saying it's because it's not an important disorder or that there is no money in it is taking it way too personally.
Carl, I understood exactly what you were trying to say. After all, vitiligo is still, sometimes called, white leprosy in India and there is a huge stigma attached to having it.
Thank you Linda........Finally somebody see's what I'm trying to say and understands :-)
That is why so many people around the world misunderstood vitiligo and see it as if it is infectious and the worst diseases . We all know that vitiligo has no connection with Lepers...
One ting which disturbs me a lot is while scientists manage to find a cure and treatment for Lepers ...why not for Vitiligo.
Dear Hana you must understand that before vitiligo was discovered they had no name for it or no knowledge of it that's why it was mentioned in the bible because it actually goes back to the dawn of man because there was even talk of cavemen having the disorder because of what was found drawn on a cave thousands of years ago
I dont really follow how this pertains to Vitiligo. I dont think what they are refering to in the Bible is Vitiligo. I think it is Leprosy. In each version that you refer to there is talk of scabbing, swelling, infectious, or serious disease and none of these things describe what happens with Vitiligo. While I was not there during the writing of the Bible nor when men decided to interpret and translate what was originally written, I feel safe to say in my opinion, these verses do not describe Vitiligo. It may have been present during those times, but if it manifested then the way it manifests now, these descriptions are obviously not about Vitiligo.
I guess it is all up to each person's interpretation of the words above!
Good Evening Cara, studies show that vitiligo has been around since the dawn of man, but since it didn't get an official name until the late 17th century when people saw it they assumed it was Leprosy until it was further investigated. Our ancestors (People of Color) were the first to roam this earth and who gets noticed first when it comes to vitiligo (People of Color) I know it may be hard for some people to believe but when it came to the different races or colors of people on this earth they were noticed more because this Earth was populated more by people of color so Vitiligo was noticed and so was leprosy but back then people often confused vitiligo with leprosy because it wasn't studied in detail yet
I hear what you are saying Carl, but in all of the excerpts you listed, it talks about swelling, scabs, and eruptions and neither of those things happen in the onset or duration of Vitiligo. No one is disputing that Vitiligo has been around, but the descriptions in the excerpts describe Leprosy. If they had said anyone with any lightened discoloration that seems to come from nowhere and causes no other real physical malady, maybe I could see that being Vitiligo. Vitiligo would never "become an infectious disease", so how can we give so much stock to what "may be" true? We don't know that these scriptures are about Vitiligo and I won't speculate that it is anything other than what it says it is.
Good Morning Cara, Yes your right about the bible talking about scabs, eruptions etc.but even discolored skin was considered Leprosy because medicial knowledge was very limited back in those days so if you had vitiligo back then, you best believe it was considered a form of Leprosy because so many skin diseases were considered Leprosy before people had the medical knowledge to realize the difference to distinguish the two
