quick fixes

Hi All .. still new to the site, and trying to navigate my way around.

I have a high profile formal function to attend in 2 weeks, and was wondering if an application of sunless tanning lotion might help diminish the appearance of my Vitiligo. I've been using a cream that is supposed to 'even out skin tone', but it isn't working (2 weeks now). When should I start the sunless tanning cream .. how long will it last .. will it work .. what brands work best?? Do I apply to my whole body, or just my white spots?

I'm mainly concerned with my hands, lower legs, and under arms (quite apparent), face and neck have a lot of uneven skin tones going on ... obviously new depigmentation happening there.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated .. asking from Southern Ontario Canada. BTW .. I'm not ready to be the 'odd one' in the room, given the guest list. Luckly, I've got a dress that covers the Vitiligo on my chest & back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks friends .. :)

  • Hi, I have gone to spray tan booths with good results. I had them go one shade darker than my darkest areas. It worked very well but make sure to go 3 or 4 days ahead of time. The directions say to keep hands cupped...make sure to do this other wise they end up too dark & it looks like the hands are painted...

If you have time do a test run a few weeks ahead of time.

    Good luck!

  • I've used Dermablend on my spots then spray Sally Hansens airbrush legs over that. In the summer when I'm tan my spots glow white, lol. I used the products just mentioned at my husbands business event , otherwise I don't care on a day to day basis.
    • I really don't like feeling uninformed, but what is Dermablend? I've seen a few people mention it in posts, but I'm new here, and fairly new to Vitiligo .. sorry for asking questions I should probably know the answer to.

  • I used the sunless tanning cream for a short time and it was a process. I applied it only to my white spots as it made my normal pigment darken. If I used sunscreen the following day it would remove the color.

I've found it helps ease my anxiety when I use long sleeves and scarves to help in certain situations. The plus to that is scarves are in fashion this year! Best of luck to you!
    • Thanks for your reply, and sharing your experience with a self tanner. I'm only looking for a quick fix, and I was hoping a self tanner would help. The only self tanner available in my area at the moment, is the St Tropez spray one .. which I'm reluctant to use on my face, because my Vitiligo is just starting, and looks like a very uneven skin tone at present. I did buy a product that was supposed to 'even out skin tone' (Jergens Glow product), and it did make my skin look nice, not even, but nice. It also make my fingernails turn brown!

Thanks again for your reply. I guess I will just have to suck it up, and make the best of the evening, Vitiligo and all. Thank goodness my husband is very supportive of my insecurities.

    • If you deside to use selvtanner crem St.Tropez is one of the best ..use it only on white spot  and remove it after few minuts ..it stay one day or two...If you stay long before wash it will stay longer ..the result is individual.

      Good Luck!

  • Hello Sharon how are you , have you tried a makeup called Airbrush. You could buy it at Walmart, I have been using it for over 4years now and it works pretty good. Sometimes
i also use Dermablend on top of Airbrush. i am 60% covered with vitiligo . I also live in Ontario.
    • Thanks for the tips .. I'm heading into Belleville today, to see if I can find the makeup you've suggested.

      • I did find Airbrush .. a very limited supply, after having to ask for assistance at the make up counter. It says it's for legs .. will it work anywhere else? And, are there any tips for applying it?
