Questions for my Dermatologist

First let me say how much I respect all of you! My question is that I have a appt. with my Dermatologist on Monday and was wondering what questions I should ask him about my Vitiligo. I will have only alittle time and don't want to waste it by not being prepared!

  • Thanks Ali Marie and Courtney for your comments. I have a feeling that he is a good dr but when I went to him 3 weeks ago and he said I have vit. he didn't have many answers and asked me if I had any questions. Well at that time I had no questions cuz I didn't know anything about vit. But since I have found this site for the last couple weeks I have learned a lot more. I just wanted to go in with info. so he knows I am serious about helping control this. He did give me a scribt for protopic but no info. on it and I looked it up and may cause cancer. So I want some info from him. At this time I have alittle vit around my mouth and some small patches on my hands. From what I hear it works good on the face but not hands.
  • Take a little time to peruse this forum, as well as the National Vitiligo Foundation's website. Read up on some of the different treatment options, and see which treatment option sounds right for *you*, if you opt for any treatment at all (keep in mind most treatment options are not covered by insurance). It's a lot to process all at once, but if I can offer one piece of advice, it's to make yourself heard and don't allow a doctor to be dismissive of your feelings. It can be emotionally devastating, and not all doctors are emotionally equipped to handle vitiligo. If your doctor does not seem to care or fails to meet your expectations in any way, find a new one that suits your personality and needs best. If you're going to be paying handsomely for these services, keep them on their toes! They work for you, not the other way around :-)
