If we try several type of self tanners ,it is possible to find the one which works good to cover vit spot ,but some says it contain DHA which is the common ingrident for all and it is not good for vitligo but many ppl use it for several years with out problem.
Please share your exprience with self tanners /fake tan..

years and years..and took me ages to find one I liked :) now I found one, I cant look back
Harrison Thanks ...Is your vitiligo active the last 2 years I mean the spots that you cover with selftanner ..is it increaseing or the same size for many years...?
Thanks again for sharing ur exprience with us.
its active in random spots...so active on the back of my leg where I don't use tanner all that often, and on my feet...but ive had the same spots for years on my face, and have used the fake tanner on my face for over 10 years. ive currently been to the dermatologist 8 weeks ago who prescribed me Tacrolimus for my face...and in 8 weeks my cheeks are nearly repigmented! might finally get to get rid of that face tanner ;) also I have a thyroid condition(which is treated with medication) that they say is link with vitiligo
Thanks Harrison.. Good to hear that Protopic helped you on face, did you use Protopic while you were using self tanner.?
ive been kinda using the self tanner if I need to (like events to go to etc) but I have been avoiding using it, just so my skin is clean for the protopic. ive just recently had a baby, so im on maternity leave for 12 months...and so I have been spending a lot of time at home which has been good as I am able to concentrate on not only my baby but getting my skin back on track & not having to worry about how my skin looks
i use Ella Bache, its called great facetan without sun. this is brilliant! I only apply it to my white patches. it looks better than makeup. when I do apply makeup over the top, the white patches are not even noticeable...and my face is nearly 50% white, especially on my cheek area.
Thanks all @K Harrison how long have you used selftanner since when?
I have used the palmers cocoa butter self tanning lotion. Be warned it made my legs very orange (not a good look when you are pale like me!). Although it made my legs orange It made the skin tone a bit more even although you could see the spots still. My vitiligo on my legs is not in a big patch or two which make it easy to cover just the pale patches, mine is in lots of smaller spots so to apply self tan I have to do my whole leg so it does not work that well. The one I have had better experiences with is dove summer glow as it gradually builds up a tan so you can stop when you feel tanned enough. I dont bother with self tanners any more though because it doesnt make much of a difference to me because I cant use tanning lotion just on the depigmented patch so my patches looks darker but my normal skin goes darker as well so self tanners dont make much of a difference to me.
Hi,
I'm new here and have been slowly reading and learning from other people's experiences. I, too was wondering about self tanners. I see a lot of mixed experiences about the "DHA" in self tanners, but it seems most countries, including Canada and the US feel it is safe. Maybe this could help, too...it's a list of tanners...obviously we would prefer something which could be gradually deepened in color without an orange tint. Supposedly some of these "bronze" better than others....I haven't tried any yet, but I will and will report my experience with it on hands and arms; hope it helps.
