Pros and Cons of Depigmentation

I'm 26 yeas old and I have had Vitiligo since about the age of 9. I've tried most types of treatments but, sadly, non showed significant pigmentation whatsoever. As a result, the idea of full depigmentation keeps popping in my head as the future does not look promising in terms of finding a cure for Vitiligo, so I thought I'd write about it in here and maybe get some useful  tips and insights from those who are for full depigmentation and those who are against it.

Keep the ideas going folks :)

Cheers,

  • I completely depigmented myself back in 2008.  For me, it was the best decision I ever made.  However, I must tell you that more often than not,  any physician you will meet will know nothing or very little about it, resulting in incomplete depigmentation or recurring pigmentation. In other words, it will fail.

I occasionally get calls or asked questions from physicians asking me how I did it, not because they are stupid but because they simply don't know where they're going wrong.  I guess you could say I became an accidental expert in the topic, and having a background in medicine and pharmacology certainly helped me help myself.  This next year (2018) , I'm going to finally get a website up to address common mistakes and myths about the treatment, so I can reach and help as many people as possible and leverage and consolidate my time in the process (yes,I need to work for a living). :)

By the way, no one who knows my journey even suspects I'm depigmented.  I can assure you that you will not look ghostly white -- really!

    Wishing you the best,

    Jackie

    • Hi Jackie would you mind personally messaging me? I have so many questions and I need some insight on this, it's so rare to find people who have done this :(

      • Gaby and all -

Many of you have asked if I have a picture of myself, in which case, I do on LinkedIn (LI). It's a snapshot taken almost immediately after I completely depigmented.  I don't think it displays unless a person is one of my connections.  That said, you (or anyone) certainly can connect with me on LI, and then my picture should be visible to anyone who is one of my connections.  I rarely refuse a connection request, and when I do, it's usually because I suspect the requester is involved in some shady endeavor.  My last name is Renaud.

This will probably be the last time I log in for a while because my schedule is getting so busy with the holidays. My guess is that is true for all of us who celebrate Christmas.

        Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday,

        Jackie

PS:  I'm sure there are a lot of Jackie Renaud's on LI, but I think I'm the only one with that name who mentions depigmentation/vitiligo.

      • Hi, Gaby -

Thanks for reaching out to me. I will have the site up soon (hopefully, within the next two to three months), which should answer most (if not all) of your questions  free of charge .(Please see above.)

        Kindest regards,

        Jackie

  • Hey,
I stopped treating my vitiligo about 1.5 years ago and it's been spreading pretty quick since. I'm thinking of fully depigmenting too. I don't know any treatments for this but if you find anything please post it!! I'm also concerned whether there's a "healthy" way of going about this and if there's any risks in being fully depigmented, i.e. increased risk of skin cancer.

    Thanks and good luck!
  • Hey Abdul,

If you haven't already, do follow the links on depigmentation here. Lots of people have kindly shared their experiences and they are very good in answering questions.

Best wishes with whatever decision you make.

    Ish x

    • Hey Ish,

I haven't done it yet as I am still hesitant. Thanks for the tip, I'll go over those links and hopefully it'll give me a new perspective on the whole idea of depigmentation

      • Hey, do you know if m.jackson's depigmentation was normal as I wouldn't want to be that light sensitive but I'm with you . . . it would just be easier to be one colour instead of three!

        • Even am looking forward for depigmentation treatment!
  • Abdul have we spoken yet?  I would like to offer my help.
