Please give me an advice.

Hi friends! I am new to this disease I am 24 years old. I was diagnosed february last year. I have depigmentation around my mouth. I am an asian girl. I am from the philippines.

My lower lip has small depigmentation as well. Besides that, I have no other depigmentation. I suppose it has ony just begun.

Currently I am afraid. I do not know what to expect. My doctor prescribed me oral sunblock, topical sunblock like 90 spf for my skin. But my topical sublock would cause me a lot of pimples so I stopped applying it, but i take my oral sunblock Heliocare everyday.

Anyway, I can't take the stress caused by this disease I guess  i am still a bit shocked. I am afraid it wont stop spreading. I am thinking of depigmenting my entire body and face before I looked worse. Is benoquin safe? What should I expect in the treatment? Can you please advise me from your personal experience? i read on the internet that benoquin takes 4 mos. to completely bleach the whole skin of the body and face. Is it true?

any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  • There are a lot of great moisturizers that have SPF already mixed in.  You want to look for one with a higher SPF naturally but I find that these are less likely to break me out than sunblock intended for the rest of the skin.

As you've just been diagnosed, re-pigmenation is the option you're going to want to focus on.

As you mentioned that you don't want to be spotted all over. Through the de-pigmentation process, you will be spotted all over until all of the pigment is gone.  Even when de-pigmented, some experience re-pigmentation so you'd have to re-apply until the pigment goes away.  It isn't an easy process and doesn't happen overnight, that's why it's the final option offered.

  • Hi Arriane !!!! Protopic works great for many with vitiligo on the face. Keep using it - minimum 4 months. Hopefully you should see some change. You can also try Vitamin B12 1000 mcg a day + Folic Acid 800 mcg a day !!! Many of us here take it. Please try and relax. Good luck to you !!!!! :-) :-) :-)

  • the sunblock is to protect your unpigmented skin in the sun.  so u should wear it when u go out so u dont get sunburn. i dont even want to imagine sun burn on your lips. owwww

monobenzone is what u need to depig completely, but since you barely have spots, i would look for a dermatologist that will prescribe u protopic and uvb treatments... i hear they work they best. dont expect to see any results for at least 3 mos.

and STRESS causes Vit to spread faster... so stop stressing out over what will happen. what'll happen will happen.  just do the best u can.

there's much more info on here... read up. ;-) but dont listen to one source, find what treatment will work best for u.

    • it takes 2 to 4 years? i didn't know it takes that long thanks for the information remeta.

I will surely join your support group in facebook. thanks for the invitation.

    • Thanks a lot Marty. Actually, I'm going to a different dermatologist tomorrow. I know that stress caused my vitiligo. and I am also one of those people who worry too much. I am just afraid that time will come I will be spotted all over. My medications right now are hydrocortisone and protopic ointment. but they are not working. (i think) because they keep spreading. So i will go to another doctor tomorrow for other options.  :) Thanks again!
    • We all had the same feeling you are having now stress, worry and everything else when we first found out we had Vitiligo. First it is not the end of the world. You will over time come to understand that Vitiligo is different for everyone. There are people on here that have only a little Vit. and some that have a lot. As Remeta has said depigment should be your last option. Marty also gave you great advice on trying different things but the most important thing is to relax as stress is the worse thing for Vit. to spread. This is a great site with many great people here to help you!
      • I know it should be the last option, I just want to skip the part when i will be spotted all over before I use monobenzone. anyway, its great advice. It seems i have a lot to think about. Thanks much for your advice william. :)
        • Just remember that it is not certain that you will be spotted all over your body. Vitiligo is different for everyone. Keep the faith and relax. You have found a great sight!!!!!:) :)
