Has anyone tried a plant based whole food diet and seen any results with re-pigmentation?
I eliminated all animal products form my diet about 3 years ago, no meat, no fish, no dairy, no eggs.
In the last 6 months I have been training for a marathon and have cut back on most processed plant based products and fried foods. I have incorporated a green smoothie (green leafy vegetables, parsley, mint, fruit of some type and sometimes a vegan protein powder) which always includes turmeric, ginger (usually fresh), both of which are purported to cut down on inflammation and cayenne, which helps boot metabolism and thyroid function. In the last month I have cut out flour and refined sugar. (not all sugar because that would make me insane, but not eating processed foods, I control the sugar. I LOVE to bake, and before about 2 months ago would bake with sugar and flour about 2x a month and regularly eat some vegan sweets. SInce cutting out flour and most sugar I have seen a dramatic increase in pigmentation, something I thought would never happen.
As some background, I started noticing some white patches on my hands about 25 years ago and since then have had an increasing number of patches all over; my skin, face hands, arms, knees, feet and places that never see the sun.
I am very active and spend a lot of time out doors.
I will add that my Vitiligo doesn't really bother me too much, occasionally a child might make a remark (I worked in childcare for a long time), and some curios adults with the condition or with a friend or loved one with the condition. I generally don't notice it.

I've changed my diet too and have seen repigmentation. I stopped eating processed foods (zero trans-fats), soda, refined flours, fried stuff and sugar. I'm pretty sure vitiligo can be controlled with diet but I guess most people would rather not prepare their own meals all the time.
I'm not Buddhist, but I am a Yogi -teacher and practitioner. I try to meditate regularly. Also I don't use any drugs or alcohol.
Peace
Hector that is awesome!!! Most physical ailments can be helped or reversed with diet!
If people eat raw... no cooking necessary :)
Seriously I hope this catches on and there can be more evidence!
I started this diet because of my cholesterol which went from 320 to 180.
Peace!
Well, I'm not eating raw, but I avoid unhealthy foods. My blood analysis comes out great, people tell me I look younger than my age (34).
Great attitude.
2 things you have to avoid at any cost:
1) physical traumas (friction, injuries, itches, scratches, allergies, sun burns, impacts, violent moves, etc.)
2) oxidative stress (excess of free radicals).
Please see www.vitiligomap.com/protocol.html.
Yeah, I'm aware of the Koebner phenomenon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koebner_phenomenon). I used to get depigmented from an injury, not so anymore.
About oxidative stress, well I went buddhist/zen and I'm completely stress free and one with the universe, I guess that helps a lot too :)
I think omega-3 helps with that too, no? I'm supplementing my intake with freshly milled flax seeds.
Please don't confuse oxidative stress with stress. Oxidative stress is the excess of free radicas. It damages the skin seriously. You have to take anti-oxidants to reduce it. Take ALA, L-Methionine and L-Glutamine.
Omega 3 is a good supplement, but you need to add the ones on the protocol page. Specially zinc, probiotics, complex-B, beta carotene, and selenium.
