Hey Everyone! Just seeing who has used phototherapy for their treatment??? I was just recommended it by my doctor but getting to the office 2-3 times a week is going to be rough with two little ones at home and working full time. My vitiligo started over the summer and is spreading fast. How long does it take to start seeing results? Months? Years? Any info would be most appreciated!! :-) thanks.

I first started with photo light therapy in the dermatologist's office, but as several of you have noted, it was not practical to go to the doctor's office three times a week. The scheduling was impossible and it would be very expensive. So, I worked with the doctor's office and the insurance company to buy a home unit. The photo light therapy company can provide all the documents for you to make the case with your insurance company that buying the unit is cheaper then the doctor's visits. I have been using it fairly consistently for about 8 months and it does cause more rapid freckling than when I was using the creams alone. It is still not working as quickly as I would like, but it is the best treatment thus far.
I have been using the full body NB UVB light therapy for about 15 months now every alternate day for anywhere between 1.5 to 3.5 minutes depending on the area. Vitiligo is widespread on my face, neck, chest, legs, etc. I am seeing a lot of freckles in those areas but the areas have not filled in yet. It has been a slow process.
This is not a cure and you have to do it for ever. That is why you must have a home unit.
Do you have a home unit? I was told by my dermatologist's office that if they can prove its working, my insurance might approve a home unit. I just can't see myself keeping up with this 3 times per week while working full time with 2 kids!
Erika, it has been working for me as I do have freckles that have appeared. I would recommend that you contact one of the manufacturers. They should have plenty of data regarding the effectiveness of their home units. A unit will cost you somewhere between $3000 to $4000.
Thanks for the link! Trying to figure out what's going on. I have hashimotos that has been treated since I was 10 (I'm 34) but obviously something isn't right. Going to start changing my diet as well!! Hopefully it all will help!

For me it took 6 month to see result. But having said that i have small spots in hands and hands are the hardest to treat.
I am going to start very soon for my daughter and this same question in my mind. waiting for people to reply. Thanks
You have to start treating from inside too.
