Friends,
I'm convinced that the only way to counter attack vitiligo is following a Functional Treatment (FT).
I haven't seen a case yet that a FT didn't improve vitiligo. Stop spreading is the main goal. Re-pigmentation comes later.
FT takes in consideration 3 approaches, as follows:
1- Basic Preemptive Actions
Diet (gluten-free), vitamins, minerals, trace nutrients, anti-fungals, probiotics and Omega 3.
2-Basic Corrective Actions
UVB-NB, pseudocatalase, protopic (face)
3-Generic Actions
Life style change (get rid of people that make you feel bad; try to be part of a group, i.e. someone important and relevant. Find another group if necessary)
Stop physical traumas: friction, hits, sun burns, scratches etc.
*It's a pity, but martial art is not a good option because of the constant traumas it causes.
*Yoga is great (thanks to Mark's suggestion)
Conclusion:
There are very few cases that a cream by itself re-pigmented vitiligo patches. These are exceptions.
It's hard to believe that someone might achieve cure or even stability without a FT support.
When isolated corrective actions are taken, pigmentation might appear, but followed by later de-pigmentation.
I'm sure that the main rule, that works to most people, with rare exceptions, is following a Functional Treatment. More detais at: www.vitiligomap.com/protocol.html

Sorry, What is trace? I tried to translate it but I did not find any meaning for it.
I'm a second language learner!!
Trace nutrients includes vitamins and minerals. They have this name because it refers to the ones that are required in only small quantities by the body.

Thanks for sharing.
What do you mean of anti-fungals? Is it cream or medicine?
I put it on Amazon and all I found is cream?
Thanks again
Laila
They are pills.
Anti-fungals are a group of ingredients that help the intestinal flora function. Some of them are below with the daily dosage:
• Probiotics (by Hyperbiotics, e.g. PRO-15) ⇒ 1 capsule with at least 5 billion CFU of the beneficial bacteria
• Paracid Forte (by Ortho Molecular) ⇒ 1 capsule at least 4 hours before or after any Probiotics
• Formula SF722 (by Thorne Research) ⇒ 1 capsule
• Candicin (by Genestra) ⇒ 1 capsule at least 4 hours before or after any Probiotics
I am curious as to why you strongly advocate an anti-gluten diet without first checking if you are sensitive to gluten? Couldn't dietary issues be caused by sensitivities to dairy or soy, as opposed to gluten?
Yes. For sure.
Since a few people is able to do a real allergy test, it's better to give a try to * any * of these diets and see what happens.
Regarding gluten, it's the most allergenic ingredient among the ones you mentioned. All the people I know that followed a gluten-free diet, reported improvements. So, the odds are high to it. That's why I advocate it.
My daughter's Derm suggested she have sunlight exposure 3X a week for 20 minutes. This is an alternative to UVB since it is difficult for us to drive to the office so frequently. She also suggested protopic 2x per day on the body spots. She was not at all worried by the black box warning and told me about this article which she (Dr. Hebert) co-authored:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3669499/
It is important to note that she has involvement with the company that makes the drug, so that must be taken into account...
I absolutely, fully agree with the functional medicine approach for long term successful treatment. Thank you for vitiligomap.com ... I find it extremely helpful.
Regarding topical corticosteroids, my thoughts are the following:
-They help to avoid melanocyte detachment in a certain way, because they minimize micro inflammation, which disturbs melanocyte adhesion mechanism However, micro inflammation is not the main vitiligo cause;
-They are more effective on face patches, since face has less micro inflammation due to lack of joints;
-Topical corticosteroids can't handle patches near joints, due to excessive micro inflammations and, consequently, MIA generation.
MIA is a protein designed by God to detach melanocytes. They are supposed to be around malignant melonocytes only, not healthy ones. Vitiligo sufferers have MIA, where it should not be. That's a possible explanation of Genect cause (or Primary cause).
Updates: MIA is also generated by chondrocytes in the cartilage of joints.
Regarding the sunlight exposure, please do it before 10AM e after 4PM, so that you will get the best wavelength spectrum.
If you add pseudocatalase cream ( http://www.vitiligomap.com/pseudo.html ) 5 min before every sun bath, the result will be even better...
