Though my own stupidity I have developed vitiligo on my penis. I was given a pack of antibiotics in a third world country, which I proceeded to take for much longer than is intended. During this time a white spot appeared on my penis and has continued to spread over the last 3 years. My doctor told me "most girls won't notice this, don't worry about it! ha ha" and basically laughed in my face. 2 years later it has continued to spread and spread and now it looks like I have some kind of disease, with white spots appearing everywhere on penis, thank you a lot doctor, is that funny?
I have started using UVB lamp. My dermatologist offered me cream however this causes thinning of the skin so I declined. In my infinite wisdom I used the UVB lamp for 2.5 minutes 2 days ago, which has caused me extreme pain and soreness since then. I have tried using bepanthen which appears to have helped a little bit with the irritation caused by the UVB. My penis is now red raw and very painful.
The vitiligo is continuing to spread on my penis (nowhere else on my body) in small white spots. On the head of my penis it looks like I am diseased, this is extremely upsetting to me as any man can understand. I am only 20 years old. The UVB is not improving the situation and now I have red sores on my penis from prolonged UVB meaning I cannot have sex with my girlfriend. I may have to seek medical advice it looks like a blister is now appearing on the head of my penis from the UVB? What can I do to help this? I am really worried now.
I feel like shooting myself in the head. Should I just let it run on and endup with a multicoloured micheal jackson penis because nothing I have tried is working and I am just sick of this. The doctor laughs at me when I am already very embarrassed by this and I have now injured myself with an eBay UVB lamp. How can I fix the vitiligo and the soreness/blister caused by UVB?

Hi Joe. Too much UVB can make it spread faster so less is ALWAYS more. I had a patch on my penis which has nearly healed.
It's interesting you mention the over use of antibiotics as I have read that long term use of antibiotics can affect the gut flora which is has been known to trigger vitiligo. Maybe try some probiotics which will put some good bacteria back in your gut? I used the bio-kult brand which you can get them from Amazon. I've also changed my diet, reduced stress (as that can also accelerate spread) and take some supplements.
Most of my patches have filled in completely but the patch on my penis was pretty stubborn compared to the rest but has now nearly filled in. It repigmented by shrinking not by spots of pigment appearing in the patch like in another areas of my body when the colour started coming back. That did make it quite difficult to tell it was repigmenting as I checked it every day and wouldn't notice the small changes. I took photos of the patch (if you do, obviously be careful if other people have access to your phone!!!) which did help me notice small changes and was encouraging to continue. I used some coconut oil as it has a very small amount of natural SPF in it and some people say using it has helped repigment when used with UVB. I have never gone over 1 minute and use the UVB 3/4 times a week. Hope this helps.
Hi Shane thanks for your reply very helpful. I have read antibiotics leads to vitiligo and I believe it's true as I took a 3 day course for approximately 10 days way back in 2011 when the vitiligo appeared. Honestly, I think the effect of antibiotics has worn off on me after all these years so I'm reluctant to try bio-kult as you have suggested. The way you have described how vitiligo affects you makes me question if I even have vitiligo. As this started in a small patch, which grew larger and has spread into many many small spots. However I have been affected by this for some time now, maybe that is why it differs. Also I have noticed that the vitiligo has faded quite significantly after scorching it with my UVB lamp so that is a victory for me even if it means no sex for a week and lots of pain.
Did you split the UVB over alternate days like, Monday Wednesday Sunday? How long did it take to see any results? Thanks again
Thank you. I know it's my own fault but I have not been getting any results with a low exposure time. Everyone online says UVB is the answer but not for me it seems...
Will protopic cream cause thinning of the skin? And what about all these "magic creams" advertised everywhere, is this just snake oil? Thanks.
Protopic does not cause thinning of the skin, it is safe to use it on Penile area.
As for the magic creams, personally i don't believe in such stuff and hadn't seen any medical trial or respectful source saying they work.
Hi John. The only thing offered to me by dermatologists was to remove a 3mm skin sample from my penis so they could analyse it and diagnose. I agreed to it but also was very nervous with having skin ripped off my special place. Eventually a senior consultant advised me it was vitiligo and the procedure was unnecessary. At first it wasn't noticeable, now I feel it is very noticeable and if If it continues to spread I'm going to have a "don't worry babe, it's just vitiligo, not herpes!" conversation in future . So I will try anything to reverse this. I am however concerned about the blister? formed on the head of my penis from UVB exposure. Does anyone have experience with this as I am now in constant pain?? Please advise
