Overcome Fear

I was 15 years old when I was diagnosed with Vitiligo. after that it took me 10 years to come out of the negative zone that happened due to social fear. I was a person with no confidence, no self respect, completely destroyed personality. In countries like India it becomes more difficult if you don't have any family support.

The only good thing that I did that "I DIDN'T QUIT". I remember the day when i decided to change my life forever. My first priority was to overcome FEAR. Fear of people's eyes "OH MY GOD THEY ARE LOOKING AT ME. WHAT THEY WILL BE THINKING ABOUT ME ?". That FEAR was like a concrete in my subconscious mind because it was repeated every second for almost 10 years. I started with daily workout. Started with morning walk,  jogging, exercise at home, Yoga and moreover making myself visible in Public which I was hiding for long years. I started reading, reading a lot.

I knew that I have to make myself mentally tough and every time i felt i am coming back I tried more harder. It all starts with FEAR and then all problem begins. My aim was to vanish that FEAR, not by running away from it but running towards it, Facing it boldly whenever it appears.

I know it was not easy for me but was not IMPOSSIBLE. I don't know what to write more. The only thing that motivated to write this was to share my thoughts with people who are facing similar problems.

Dear friends just focus on your life nothing else. Make your goals and just forget about Vitiligo. Its not the looks that make people beautiful, it's all in the thoughts. I was very happy when i found VITILIGO FRIENDS. I am very happy to see people here fought against there tough times and are living happily. Hats off to all.

  • Hi vikas,
I had same life experience as u. Vitiligo impacted every decision and today also sometimes I think that not to do any tedious job as it will spread white patches rapidly.
I remember my childhood time everybody even so close relatives commented in very harsh way... U look ugly .. no body is going to pair up with you.... Bla bla.....
But got very good friends to stand by me...
And above all a very loving and adorable husband who encourages me ... Always assure your skin problem doesn't bother me.....
Earlier I used to ask God why such intolerable pain in my life.... But he gave lots of good things to me....
Still to go in parties.... Family functions puzzle me .... I try to be confident and brave... I fall again .... Again I try hard ... And that's how life is going on

    God bless all members....
    • Hi Anjana,

I learnt only one thing, that we cannot change what anyone is thinking about us. It's good that we should focus on our strengths,.You are fortunate to have a husband who is understanding and stand by you. Be positive in your life.

  • Hi Poonam,

I understand how you feel and I hope that you will be able to come to terms with Vitiligo being just a part of who you are, rather than all that you can be. Please don't let negativity and social stigma define you! I don't know how old you are-but please go out and live your life and enjoy living it! If you feel down about yourself, it's much harder to be around people and the world is such a big place-with billions of us...Who is to know who will be lucky enough to meet a lovely looking girl like you?!

Make friends-if people are too shallow to associate with someone who has a skin condition-they are not worth knowing! You are not a burden-you are a human being like all of us on this site and you must not be defeated! Be strong! Be positive!

Trust me-life goes by so fast-do not be disheartened because of narrow-mindedness. You deserve to live without fear of rejection-but, I want you to understand that very few people don't have any doubts about whether they'll be accepted or not-and that goes for people with and without Vitiligo!

    Best wishes,

    Ish x

P.S Vikas-you have an awesome outlook in life!!! Stay happy!
    • Hi Ish,

Thanks. I totally agree with you. Awesome thoughts !!!

  • Yes but as a girl it is very tuff for me specially in this age . We face many of married rejection . Right now because of me my whole family suffer social neglecting.and it's very hurting
    • It's really hard for a girl to face some situation than a guy..
      • Yeah its true. In countries like India where we have lot of social pressure.

    • Hi Poonam,

I can understand the social problems that any person suffering from Vitiligo faces, as I have gone through it. But In order to live happy life we need to change ourselves. God has made partner for everyone and believe me you will also get it one day. Focus on your life, live it confidently. Don't feel bad about yourself, Start Loving yourself. Be Happy :)
