I was diagnosed with vitiligo about a  year ago (2010).  It started with what was thought to be a fungal infection on my arms.  I  was also suffering with severe vaginal itching for about 2-3 years (negative fungal swabs etc...).  Not knowing there was a connection, I never put the two together.  As time went on, my  "rash" on my arms started to depigment and that is when my PCP diagonsed me witht vitiligo.  As time went on, I found this site and started to talk with alot of different people.  I started to realize my symptoms where different....my skin was getting thick on my arms, hands, chest, vulva with terrible itching and a silvery hue to the "rash".  I posted about this with no response from other vit sufferes agreeing to the symptoms.  I had no other spots???? Not on my face, neck, hands, like others have. I really began to second guess my diagnosis, so I went to a dermatologist.  She did a skin biopsy and I was positive for Lichen Sclerosis.  This was a surprise to me, I was also a bit annoyed that so many years went by with complaints to OB and FP and no one caught it.  The symptoms I have are classic Lichen Sclerosis symptoms.  I wonder if there are others on here with a misdiagnosis like this, so, I thought I would post this to see.  There is treatment but no cure.  Look it up if you believe you might have the same....and get treated ASAP before it casuses scarring and painful sores.....

for more information you can go to: lichensclerosis.net

UPDATE:  Depigmented areas healing well with topical steroids (heavy duty doses) and the itching is GONE!!  Waiting to see what is next....hopefully remission.  We shall see.
