I have been hiding underneath my make up since I was in 8th grade and now I am a senior in high school. I'm tired of hiding my vitiligo since it makes me spend money on products to keep it hidden and I'm not much of a big make up person but I'm insecure about my vitiligo so I keep wearing it. After I graduate I want to start being more comfortable in my own skin but not sure how people who have only known me with make up would react. So should I open up to people by posting a picture of me without make up on social media to let people know or what should I do?

Hi Paulina, I'm glad you're taking a step in being comfortable with your vitiligo. I've had vitiligo since I was 8 so I've never covered mine. Since this is a big step for you I would start small. Have your close friends or classmates see you without makeup on. Once you feel more comfortable you could try going to school like that to see how it feels. I'm sure your real friends won't care. Just be prepared there are going to be people who might ask you questions, stare at you funny or say mean things. Don't let them get to you and be confident in who you are. Good luck! I hope everything works out great.
Thank you for commenting Angie! I just I'm scared of getting stared at or getting bad comments about me or people making fun of me. I've had depression before because of getting bullied for my vitiligo and I'm scared that I will fall back into depression if I show my vitiligo to people and get bad reactions back I know I shouldn't care of other people's opinions and I don't it's just words do hurt and I can be a tad bit senstitive when it comes to how I look.

I understand I went through that phase when my vitiligo started. That's why I would start small and build up your confidence. Make sure you have a strong support system because your going to need someone to make you feel good about yourself. I'm sure being on this site will help you. There are a ton of confident people with vitiligo on this site. Just know that you're not alone and we all go through moments like that. Maybe you should start by posting a photo on this site first before something like facebook.
