I had aml leukemia and when I went into remission I had to have a bone marrow transplant and a few months after my transplant I developed vitiligo. My doctors started this treatment called photophersis and it did wonders for my skin but I would not recommend it to anyone because its a lot on the body that's why I stopped. You have to get a port put in your chest and they stick this big needle in the port and they take some of your blood out using this special machine and it cleans your blood and returns it. You have to lay flat and sometimes it could take hours because the machine would act crazy or my blood will clot. You would feel light headed when it takes the blood out and you have to eat tums to help. So as you see it is a lot to go threw and I had to stay in the hospital for three days because of the big needle. Only certain people know how to insert that big needle. But besides all of the negative it really did a good job on my skin. After almost three months I did not look in the mirror so everyone that seen me said wow your face look really good and I just said thanks not knowing how much it did. I was surprised when I finally looked in the mirror. I'm still getting new spots today. So I'm happy with the results but I'm trying other easier ways now to help with the rest.
I've never heard of this treatment, do you mind me asking what city this was done in? This is so interesting to me, I'm going to have to research it. I'm so happy for you, and you are continuing to get your color back, amazing. It sure sounds like it is a miserable treatment, you are such a strong person to have gone through leukemia and then this treatment, I'm in awe of you!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that comment. I had it done in Wilmington Delaware at A I Dupont hospital. I never heard of it either until they told me about it. They also call it ECP. It is one of the fastest ways to get your skin color back. They use it for a bunch of autoimmune diseases like vitiligo and in my case they used it for vitiligo and GVHD. I'm not sure why they are not really telling people about this treatment.
