Hello everyone hope you are all well.

I am writing this to share my experience in getting my lips Tattoed (micropigmented) so that others can learn and make an informed decision.

My story starts with me getting a ithy rash on my lips, face and hands as a 10 year old. Once the rash dissappeared i was left with white patches on the skin. I was prescribed a steroid creams and the white patches on the face dissappeared. The lips however remained white/pink along with small areas on both hands.

About 2 years ago i decided to go ahead with micropigmenting my lower lip in the hope of camouflaging my pink/white lips ( i am dark skinned). The outcome of the procedures wasn't as expected and i broke out with cold sores with NO colour retention. I decided to try again but this time i took medicine (acyclovir) before the procedure, yet again i broke out but this time the white patch grew on the right side of my lip.

Here i am today wishing that i hadn't gone ahead with the tattoing and thinking that i instead should have tried to use other methods to cure from insde ( supplements etc). I should have weighed the pro and cons rationally without letting my emotions cloud my judgement.

One question i am keen to find the answer to is wether the micropigmentation may have killed any hopes of repigmenting my lips naturally. By that i mean does it do damage to dormant melanocytes?

Finally, if anyone is thinking of micropigmenting their lips make sure to think about it long and hard and also get prescription of cold sore medicine before going ahead if youve ever had a cold sore outbreak.
