MTHFR GENE TESTING

hi all I have been reading about the MTHFR gene and how mutations of this can result in vitiligo. Basically the mutation means your body doesn't use/absorb folate properly, so depending on how many bad copies u inherit ur folate absorption can be as low as 10 -60%. if you have it the doctors can give u an alternative form of folate but u need doctor testing and supervision dont self diagnose. more info is available at mthfr.net has anyone investigated this before or been tested. ?

  • Im not sure that data group was big enough to be conclusive. .. also my knowledge is limited however I am aware its pssoble to get misleading results with vitamin b, eg it is detected in serum levels as circulating, but not actually taken up properly by the body. Would be interestinv to see bigger studies or blood/gene profiling of groups of vit patients
  • MTHFR gene mutations (C677T and A1298C) do not seem to create susceptibility for vitiligo
