According to new studies, physical traumas, friction and injuries on the daily basis are the main explanation for vitiligo spreading.
Also oxidative stress, of course.
Non-vitiligo sufferers don't have the genetic predisposition for that, but we have to avoid friction.
Please see the pictures and think about it...
PS: Hands and feet don't need pictures to justify friction.

You are right to give any vitiligo treatment at least 6 weeks, Joyce. I'm not aware of anything that works much faster, in terms of visible results anyway, than this time scale. So patience is definitely the key. Good luck.
Joyce, you are doing the right thing. Unfortunately, doctors really don't know much about this disease. I hope yours be an exception. I have seen a few good ones.
We (vit sufferers) have to stay together and share as much info as possible. That's the only way to get rid of the white spots.
I hope you have great results in your treatment.
Joyce, if you need a 9w UVB device I can give one. I have an extra one. Please let me know.
I did couple of times at dr.'s office but then I bought the lamp and now do it at home. My doctor recommended me to buy it in order to save money, cause you need to do this procedure almost everyday.
I've been doing light therapy for the last 3 months and I really see some "movement" going on inside the white area. My white spots were almost round shaped and now they look more like flowers )
Hi Mia,
I found narrow band UVb beneficial too and was lucky enough to have it free of charge on the NHS as I live in the UK. My course of treatment was a few years ago now and was given 3 times a week. This allows time for the white patches to "recover" on the in-between days. The aim is to give just enough light therapy with each treatment to turn the white patches slightly pink and tight-feeling but without actually burning. It is important to be aware though that a lot of people who achieve success using UVb relapse after the treatment has ended. So I would advise you to work simultaneously on making any diet and lifestyle changes that might be necessary to sustain your repigmentation.
My recovery started (and has been sustained over 4 years now) with a nutritional approach but was helped along by UVb therapy. Feel free to read my story at www.vitiligoprotocol.co.uk and to contact me if you need any more information. Good luck :)
