Is there any paticular brand of makeup that works the best.I was never a makeup person and don't know too much about it. I dont really need it now but I am starting to see a spot on my cheek and would like to start experimenting now to find my right color and type. If anyone has found a successful makeup that works please let me know. :)

I've used Dermablend and Vichy in the past but they were never quite right for me. I did some digging and came across a brand called Cover FX. So far, for me, it's the best one I've tried. Great coverage. It was made by dermatologists and camouflage specialists (like Dermablend), so if you're open to ideas I'd really reccommend giving it a go.
I went to Harvey Nichols to test it out before I bought it to make sure I had the correct match. The woman who helped me gave me some good advice too about applying it too so I'll share :) - and it's relevent to any brand of make up you choose is best for you.
Little things like using a brush instead of a spounge (and deff not fingers because it absorbes it all apparently). She also said don't be frightened to apply more than one coat of camouflage - as long as you apply your layers propperly, it won't look like it's caked on. (I used to be very impatient and would wonder why i could still see patches after I'd applied make up, but apparently it's all in the technique :). )
Whatever make up you choose try:
- starting off with a normal base foundation
- then using the camouflage
- set with the setting powder (I still use Dermablends)
- finish off with a once over of foundation/bronzing powder.
(you might want to go another brush of setting powder... it's up to you.
- then your blusher, if you're a blusher person (I'm not)
Anyway, let me know if this is helpful :) and good luck - I hope you find something you feel confident with! x
Hi, I would like to suggest Maybelline Dream Mouse (or the matte version if your skin is oily). I tried all kinds of make up from derma blend to Cover fx and what not, it would all look plastic on my face because i had to put heavy layers on my pigmented part. The maybelline mousse is so light weight and so soft on the skin, You can put layers and it doesn't look cake and doesn't look wrinkly.. Everyone tells me , how transformed I look. I use the 'natural beige' and it just costs about 10 bucks. I am really greateful to Jesus to leading me to this product. I am brown skinned and this color blends very well on the wite and brown parts.
I just bought Dermablend. You will most likely have to buy more than one color and mix them to get your color. Then you can mix a lot and keep it in a little jar. It's rather pricey but it's good stuff. I'm still working on getting the perfect color for my hands and arms.

Great, been worried about camouflage for dark skin color, went to a shop that was selling Dermablend blend years back when I wanted to try it but they couldn't get my color as the lady I met tried two colors and it still didn't cover it, I believe she lacks experience in such as she insisted that I have to use two different colors to get it covered so I assumed that Dermablend is actually not meant for Blacks and quite expensive (maybe down here), again I hated what she did because it was heavy (imagine someone who does not wear make-up to start with such heavy stuff on the face) people us different products but I think it works because of their skin color and skin texture, have heard persons using Black Opal, Mac and even Imam that does not have camouflage in their product range but concealers.......so for lighter skin shades any concealer might just do the work.

Cant wear make-up now, but really wish to have them to suggest to people who keep asking for which to use
I would have to agree with Remeta, Dermablend is great, if you try it; you will need the setting powder along with the cover cream. Works great in water too. You can purchase it at Macy's.
I only have a few spots on my face but my arms and hands look really bad. What is the best coverage for large areas? My neck looks pretty bad and I could use Dermablend for that but I have pretty large spots on my knees and chins. I've use a self tanner (Summer Color by Banana Boat) that I have to order online and I have to buy a deep dark color for the best coverage but it's a hassle to keep up...and then of course I add the sun block. I like winter ONLY because I wear long pants and long sleeves! And I don't use anything. It all gets pretty expensive and my income is limited. Any suggestions? I actually tried Dermablend several years ago and it came off...even though I used the setting powder. It sounds like it is better now.
Hi Debbie, I have only just joined this site so not sure if you still access it as I note your entry is dated 2009. I was really interested in the fact you said you used self tanner? I have tried this but it does not appear to adhere to my white patches of skin, can you confirm that the one you used actually tanned the white skin also? If so I will try it. I am finding it increasingly embarrising now at Summertime, I can't wait for Autumn and Winter so I feel okay covering up. I have it in my armpits, so I cannot wear all those lovely tops and dresses people wear without no straps. It takes me longer to get ready for work on summer mornings as I have to camouflage my hands, I've noticed my work friends looking at it, I know its something I have to accept, but some days it can be really depressing. I know there are worst things that can happen to a person, but I feel like part of my identity has gone. I use Derma Color and creme and fixing powder that I obtained free, but the powder is so messy, how on earth does one open this pot without it going everywhere?
Hi Susie....I forgot about this...but yes, it does blend the white spots in. I have to get the darkest color (even though I have lighter skin) and it seems to work pretty well. At least the spots aren't real noticeable any more. It will usually last 2-3 days which is helpful. I know what you mean by it being so difficult in the summer. My favorite season and yet it is such a hassle to cover up. I am mostly homebound because of other issues so I don't have to deal with the embarrassment but I do understand how difficult it all is. Good luck!
Thanks Debbie, shame about being housebound tho', I have just had an op on my foot so have been quite isolated since the middle of June, I'm due back to work in a week, and must say do not feel like going back out there, although know its a must. Fortunately my favourite season is Autumn! I think I blend in with the colours somewhat.
