Some people tell me it's a blessing in disguise. I just think it's a blessing. Every day i wake up and i'm grateful that summer is here, and my vitiligo shows! I live in Montreal, so the temperature shift between summer and winter is quite great. And since i'm of a medium skin complexion it doesn't show at all in the winter. I will be sad when it doesn't show anymore. When people ask me about my hands, i tell them this: "This is called vitiligo. It makes me look and feel unique and i'm actually very blessed." How can a person's reaction to such a response be anything but warm?

To everyone: I just wanted to add that we're all at different levels of acceptance of our pigmentation situation. There are times where I'm incredibly positive and happy with my appearance. Other times where I'd love to be like my turtle Christopher and hide in a shell.
Certainly nobody wants to hear constant negativity but we're all here to listen to and respond to everyone's concerns, negativity included.
Sometimes I read on this or other Vitiligo message boards "I'll be fine as long as it doesn't spread to my face."
Being 99% de-pigmented, I can say it's spread across my face and every single body part. I was beyond devastated and chose to withdraw from life rather than being an active participant. I realize now that I chose the wrong path and am doing everything to turn my life around and accept who and where I am in life.
Life doesn't end when your pigmentation leaves!
I wish I had realized that earlier! It's okay to be negative at times, we've all been there. But if and when the negativity becomes overwhelming, please seek professional help.
Remember, we're all part of a strange, unique club that nobody chose to be a member of.
Your hands are better than my all white hands.........lol
"It's a part of ourselves and we shouldn't make it apart from ourselves." A to the G bebe
