Just getting started...

Hello All! Hey, can anyone make a recommendation as to which Drs are the "go-to" people in the U.S.? Also, has anyone heard of any successful treatments that are being undertaken to ameliorate the onset of vitiligo here or in other parts of the world?

Btw: Thank you Cawanda, Christie and Nadika for welcoming me.

  • There was one study published that I saw on the www.pubmed.com website (published medical journal website) that think may have been from India. And the study found  that the unhealthy eating habits triggered vitiligo to show up sooner due to that. It was interesting ..I cant remember the name of the article... it is on that site though. (so according to the study eating healthy and making sure to get all the right nutrients may help prevent or make vitiligo not show up as soon. ) They found there was a higher incidence in the patients in the trial that were malnurished.

I have found that drs. seem to know less than I do about it..particularly in terms of using supplements, dietary changes and natural treatments. (all the dermotologists know to do is either prescribe a steriod cream, protopic, or do uvb.) Every dermotologist I went to always says well your not african american so it doesn't matter for you. Of course it maters!

    • Thank you!!!!
    • "well your not african american so it doesn't matter for you." total ignorance on the side of the doctor.  what do they think happens to you when you try to get a sun tan and then burn in several spots??? thats the sign to go look at other doctors. also shows they're ignorant cause they only think there's two types of people on this planeys. afr.amer and euro.amer..... what about asian americans from india over to japan. what about native americans. africans, south americans, latinos??? sheeesh. idiots.

when ever you talk to a dermatologist on the phone, ask them how many vitiligo patients are they treating? how long have they worked with vitiligo patients? you want a dermatologist who has more knowledge then you. if they dont... then just read the forums and discussions on this site. there is TONS of info here.
