I am celebrating, although I must admit that it is a bitter-sweet celebration. July marks eight years since I detected that first spot on my left ring finger that turned out to be Vitiligo. I have non-segmental trichrome vitiligo. My patches vary in color from light brown to likely some totally de-pigmented skin. However, when tested under a microscope, the lightest of my patches still contain melanocytes. I can still tan and I have seen success with natural sun tanning (especially in my face, hands, and feet). Light treatments can be very expensive and are still not covered under most medical insurance plans. I say non-segmental vitiligo, but I am actually not sure. My vitiligo, although wide-spread over my body, does seem to appear in specific patterns.
I have been much more focused on life issues than my vitiligo. http://mosaiclifeonline.blogspot.com/
Recently, I have seen a few articles that peaked my curiosity about medical treatments that could restore pigment, so I am excited about that. http://www.ibtimes.com/rheumatoid-arthritis-drug-used-successfully-treat-vitiligo-1987549
Whether you are just living with vitiligo or actively fighting it, I hope that you too are celebrating. Life is too short to do otherwise.
