Is there a way to speed up vitiligo??

Sooo my goal right now is to depigment my skin, the problem with that is that i don't have it on 50% or more of my body, in total it's maybe like 10% of my body but 50% of my face- it's really rough for me that it has attacked my face the most, limbs and other parts are a different story but the face is very psychologically disturbing to me, and also my hands are getting pretty bad too. Im not sure what to do, the vitiligo has been unresponsive for close to 7 years, ive never had any good results from any treatment and it's definitely spreading. I feel like doctors probably won't respect my wish to depigment, basically i would have to suffer until the vitiligo spreads even more on my body, honestly that's pretty messed up in my - it's going to spread either way, i just think it unfair that i have to wait and see if it will even happen or live with a disfigured face forever. Im already on the brink of suicide, not for the vitiligo alone, but because vitiligo just made my depression problems 10 times worse. I've thought about depigmentation for 3 years now, i thnk that's plenty of time to decide. We all know there is no cure for this, and there probably will never be- or at least not for a long time. Soo im wondering, does anyone know a way to make this stupid thing spread faster? or should i just try to find a doctor that will understand me and respect my decision/wishes?

  • Hello Gaby,

I have been suffering from 15yrs and now 30-40% of my body is affected with vitiligo and I loss all my hope of repigmentation So, I am also looking for de pigmentation. Before a couple of days, had asked a Doctor about it but he will be available in December, has mentioned Rs.2500 INR as his consultation charges. I am not sure whether he had any success stories for depigmentation of vitiligo patient.

I am finding myself in a helpless situation, a times ridiculed for a condition that I didn’t know myself how it came about, I don’t have any help nor control for "why it is so hard for me to struggle to live positively in the midst of trials, challenges".

I have been keeping my fingers cross that I'll hear some good comments on depigmentation!

    • My mom has vitiligo and she got depigmentation about 10 years ago, no one can tell she ever had any skin problem- I believe that for people like you and me, depigmentation is the best option. Some people are okay with it and settle with it, but if you are unhappy you should do what you can to feel better about yourself. Repigmentation in my opinion is a waste of time and money, sometimes you may repigment- but it doesn't last and sometimes it comes back even worse than it was before. i suggest you try your best to get depigmented if that's what you want to do, depigmentation seems to be one of the only real solutions to the patchy skin. Light treatment gives you wrinkles and steroid creams are just gonna thin out your skin and they might not even work- just think about that if you are considering a permanent solution for vitiligo.

      • do you mind in sharing the details of Specialist to whom your mom had contact and done the depigmentation. Its hard for me to find an specialist who have experience in depigmentation with a success history.

Kindly do let me know if you have any doctor's in your mind that are available in India

        • My mom went to a homeopath doctor to get the depigmentation treatment done but he is located in Mexico, I read that they do stem cell therapies in India, i dont know exactly where- but i think it would be a good idea to look it up.for yourself. I know in India they should have specialists in Vitiligo as well but you just gotta find the right one. It would be good if you did some more research into finding the right doctor for you.

  • Hi Gaby, I just read your discussion .There are people who have been suffering form vit .much longer then you.Talk to your  doctor or other specialist immediately.I have been suffering for more than 50 yrs.Recently im trying gluten free and seeing some hope seeing some improvement but very slow.Never think of bring the life to its edge.Take a look on the street in your town a lot of people have much bigger problem on their face or other parts of the body and that will give some i say some consolation.Take is easy &pray to God for help .I m sure you will get some help one way or another.Do not rush .Even though the face part is hard to handle .  Think positive .From my little experience i can tell you you will get better little by little.    .
