Interview with Doctor Matteo Bordignon (Part 1)

Doctor's Matteo Bordignon research can be seen at www.researchforvitiligo.com
1- Doctor, Does Vitiligo sufferer's skin have defective adhesion of melanocytes?
No.  The real defectiveness is the MIA generation itself,  that does not happen in normal skin except in the rare cases of some form of metastatic malignant melanoma.

2- How  is MIA generated?
At first, MIA generation is probably connected to stress hormones. This happen also during childhood, not because children are stressed (it could happened in some case, but not in the majority of cases) but because these stress hormones play a physiological role in the body development.
To have this disfunctional MIA production, there should be a genetic predisposition, so that  stress hormones activate the MIA production.

3- What can cause this "wrong" MIA generation?
This wrong MIA generation and activity may be activated by some factors as  physical traumas and in small degree by oxidative stress. This MIA makes melanocyte adhesion of any skin (vitiliginous surely and probably also non-vitiliginous) to become weak until it is lost, since it's its natural function. This melanocytes detachment causes the development of white patches on the skin, without any involvement of the immune system.

4- How do you intend to achieve the cure?
Rendering MIA will stop melanocyte detachment and will definitely be a cure.  However,  it is likely that patients will have to use the cream forever, at least in a maintenance level.

5- What would be the perfect cure in your opinion?
In a perfect world,  it would be better if we could stop the wrong MIA generation.  So  physical traumas and oxidative stress wouldn't trigger any MIA generation.  Such challenge will demand future deep DNA research.
