Insurance denied UVB-NB therapy

Hi all-

I was diagnosed with vitiligo just a short while ago (about 1.5 months) and while I know there is no cure, the one thing I've been holding onto as helping the most is light therapy.  My dermatologist ordered the therapy, and a pre-authorization claim was submitted.  Today I just got the news that they are denying coverage and I'm feeling like I just had my hope-balloon popped.  That being said, I know there are options since I still want to pursue this therapy.

As far as I see it, I can do the following (perhaps more than one):

1)  File for an appeal with the insurance company.

2)  Pay for clinic visits out of pocket (my doctor informed me they'd bill me at a much reduced rate but I don't know what that is.  Still, 3 times a week for 16+ weeks won't be cheap no matter what).

3)  Buy a home unit

Any advice?  My vitiligo is still in early stages but is in many places on my body (face, hands, legs, feet).  I'd like to be treating this now to help slow it down.

Thanks,

Mike
