In which order do I apply the ointments/creams?

Can someone please guide me on what ointments to put on when?

I' am currently using 4 types of ointments see below and I was told to put on all of them at once an hour before the UVB 311 treatment but some people on the forum advise differently eg. Protopic ointment must only be applied after the UVB light treatment because it blocks the UVB light.

Now I have also started with 308-nm excimer laser treatment and don’t want to drive all the way to the treatment centre earlier in the mornings and do the treatment but then only find out that it was 50% efficiency because I was blocking it with the ointments that I' am putting on in the wrong order.

1: Classique Vitiligo Cream - Locally made (http://www.cremeclassique.co.za/vitiligo.html) and this one state 1 hour before UVB Treatment or sun exposure

2: Protopic 0.1

3: Khellin 5%

4: Dovobet

  • According to your list, you can apply Khellin and Classique right before phototherapy.  I'm frankly not aware of Classique Vitiligo Cream's effectiveness.

Pseudocatalase is also a good cream to apply right before phototherapy.

The others (including Elidel, which is not in your list) should be applied much earlier or after.

Btw, how is your cream protocol?  I'm curous, since you are applying a lot of stuff...

    • Thank you for the reply, I have only being using the creams since March this year and Khellin is currently out of stock in the country and it’s also about 4 times the price of the Classique Vitiligo Cream's so now I 'am only using it on my lips before treatments.

I don’t think that we have Pseudocatalase or Elidel in our country or maybe someone on the forum from South Africa can assist in that regard.

I 'am currently applying the Classique Vitiligo Cream's and Khellin (Lips only) an hour before the time and sometimes the Protopic before I go to bed but has stopped with the Dovobet because I don’t know when to apply it.

I personally feel  that in the beginning it didn’t work that well because I was applying all 4 at the same time before the treatments or maybe I 'am  just too quick to judge the progress.

      • In my opinion, it's fine if you combine up to 2 creams with phototherapy.

        Examples:

        Protocol 1)

Protopic: 2x a day (morning and afternoon).

Classique: 1x a day (before bed).  20min before phototherapy (if it's the case).

        Protocol 2)

Daivobet: 2x a day (morning and afternoon).

Khellin: 1x a day (before bed).  20min before phototherapy (if it's the case).

        Protocol 3)

Elidel: 2x a day (morning and afternoon).

Pseudocatalase: 1x a day (before bed).  20min before phototherapy (if it's the case).

You can also do things like, protocol 1 for face patches and protocol 2 or 3 for other patches.  Then you compare the results.

        I hope it helps.

        • Thank you I will from now on go with Protocol 1 and just replace the Protopic with Dovobet when the prescription is finish.
