Since I first started learning how to drive decades ago, I've always had a habit of keeping my left arm out the car window, and even with my Vitiligo I continue to do it and sometimes after a short drive my arm is red as a lobster even with a long sleve shirt, I tried to use a sun block on several occasions but I'm afraid that it may get on my hands and by sun block being slippery like lotion I don't want my hands to slip off of the steering wheel because that could cause a traffic accident, My Dermatalogist has even told me that he could actually write me a note to have my front driver and passenger side windows tinted because Vitiligo is a medical condition and only people with Vitiligo who drive can get their doctors to write a note for tinted windows, I didn't know this, But to be honest I'm so used to having my arm out the window I don't think the window tint will help me, But I'm going to give it a try and also here in my city of Philadelphia the Police like to harass people with tinted windows by pulling them over and giving them a traffic ticket, But if I get pulled over I hope the Police feel stupid after they see the note that my Dermatologist wrote for my tinted windows..............lol

  • Believe it or not, I was driving from the East Coast to the West Coast in a Blue 2000...Plymouth Voyager, just like yours, because I use to have that habit bad also.
    • Hey Vic I tried to stop that bad habit but, I can't for some reason , I feel like I'm more in control of my car with my arm sticking out and yes I had a very bad sunburn before not because of my arm sticking out but because I went to union labor day rally and I stayed for the festivities I was in the hot sun for over 4 hours and my whole body was red like a lobster it stung when I touched my skin, but I didn't go to emergency room because I knew the sun burn would eventually go away, it was so bad that it was called Sun Poisoning your not burned bad by the sun until you been sun poisoned

      • Sun Poisoning, is no joke Carlton. After my first one, I've been a believer ever since.
  • Carlton,

That is how I got my first and so far, my only sunburn in life. I pray I don't ever let that happen again, the burned area was "only" the back of my left hand. By the time the pain was the most intense, I thought I was going to have to go to emergency but I prayed and prayed and the pain finally went away. In short, do what ever you can safely to prevent a burn, because if you never had one, you don't want one, it's that painful. I really thought, I would have to go to emergency for a burn that was just on the back of my hand, about 3 inches square, maximum.
