Well I had something odd happen to me last week. During my lunch break I walked to the Taco Truck of which fellow employees order food and wait. It was raining so I ordered my food and told them I would be back in 10 mins. I came back to pick up my food and there was still a group of people about 15 of which I see but don't know personally waiting for their orders. I was handed my food but as I was standing there lady out of nowhere loudly says "You have Vitiligo". Everyone there just turned and looked at me, all in shock including myself. I responded "Yes I do" and the lady proceed in saying "You are beautiful". I turned around and said "Thank You" and walked back to my office. Sometimes I forget I have vitiligo but when it's called to my attention I start with this process of becoming self conscious of it and start seeing how much it has spread. I don't know if she said it out of pity or because she thought I was beautiful. Either it was an experience.

Hi,
The lady was indiscreet at first and tried to correct herself by complimenting you. In any case you are beautiful as i can see from your profile picture. Be happy.
i think that has happened to everyone with vitiligo you are in a public place and out of nowhere someone says very loud you have vitiligo . that happened to me my first day of work at my current job ...i was new first day of work and out of nowhere some girl ask me really really loud you have vitiligo thats so cool my cousin has vitligo too she said.i just smiled at her and walk away i felt really odd
im very cool with my vitiligo my skin is not dark so it blends good with my vitiligo still very odd someone you dont know asks you about it
Hi Deena,
My interpretation is a little bit different.
I think the lady could not deal with a contradiction on her mind, like someone beautiful that has vitiligo.
Probably her poor mind thinks that every vitiligo sufferer is weird (or even ugly).
The lady was surprised by you - which is great! - with the fact that vitiligo and beauty *can* and *do* live together.
Cheers.
Thank you Robot. Yes vitiligo and beauty do live together. I find it annoying people have the nerve to ask me why I don't cover myself and depending on my mood I answer accordingly. ;)
Deena,
Something like that would initially leave me in shock too since I do not like my Vitiligo drawn to attention (I spend too much time trying to cover it up). However, I have tried to use cover-up on my hands but never seems to perfect it so now I just leave it alone.
Not too long ago in a supermarket the cashier, looking at my hands, said to me "Oh you have Vitiligo... my cousin has that real bad all over his face." At this point I just said it's not easy to live with and I told him I too had Vitiligo on my face but received the excimer laser treatments and it has almost fully re-pigmented. I was totally embarrassed!
I don't think people understand what we face on a daily basis. It is so hard to live with and we grasp at straws for treatments.
I pray daily a cure will be found for this disease.
Anyway, you are a beautiful and I'm sure that woman said it because she meant it!

Does laser treatment works. am musicians with vitiligo covering my face..Am 17 years old can someone help me please
Joseph,
Yes, it does work. I went 2-3 times a week to my Dermatologist office for Excimer Laser treatments. It took about 3-4 months to start to see results and another 2 months to fully heal.
It is a commitment and takes up time during your week. I don't know how severe your Vitiligo is on your face, but I had about 50% coverage and I was determined to re-pigment. Nothing was coming inbetween me and my treatments! I was also using Tacrolimus 2x's a day on my spots.
I wish you the best should you decide to go forth with Laser treatments. Let us know how you are doing.
