I can't tell you the relief I had a couple of nights ago when I searched Twitter for Vitiligo, and this group came up. I was instantly filled with a sense of relief (I'm not alone! Yay me!) and a sense that this community is very supportive. If I hadn't cried enough over this disease, I might have cried some more, but I've given this disease enough of my time. Movin' on!
So far, I'm very fortunate that my vit is in places I can cover on a daily basis. My right underarm is almost completely depigmented, and my left is about half way (and a lot of other little spots all over). I just found a dermatologist last month who figured out what the heck has been going on, and now am using Protopic. Sounds like it's pretty common on these boards, so I'm excited to see results.
Question .... Has anyone found that lifestyle choice affects their vitiligo? I was working with a naturopath on some other skin issues, and cutting out wheat, dairy and eggs seemed to help a bit for that. Soon after I got that under control, the vitiligo started to show. (or not show as the case may be! Ha!) I'm pretty active, and try to eat well (the occasional ice cream does touch my lips, and my hips :P), but wondered if anyone had any experience with helping the body along? I understand that vit is considered by some to be an auto-immune malfunction ... any way of relaxing that system in the body?
Any comments, suggestions, tips ... all welcome! Thank you for listening.
Cheers, and I'm excited to find fellow vit-ers!
Heather
