Hi, I'm new here too

Just found this site the other day and decided to join.

I've had vitiligo since I was in my teens.  Since then I've been to numerous dermatologists and tried almost everything.  I work with my hands so that's the most self conscious part for me.  But I have huge patches on my back, legs, thighs and arms.

Spent a fortune on lotions, creams and treatments.  A few years ago, I gave the Xtrac laser a go.  Went for treatments twice a week for about six months.  The treatments were very expensive and were not covered by insurance.  Also had to use ointments with the laser treatments so it added to the cost.  It repigmented parts of my back but that's about it.  Since it only showed slight improvement I finally stopped the laser treatments (and my savings acct was also drained).

Now I'm going to a herbal specialist and taking his concoctions while taking supplements--B12, vit D, Gingko Biloba and Flaxseed oil.  In addition, I'm trying the topical Procatalyse cream in conjunction to the narrow ban UVB.  I bought a hand held one. It's been about five months and I don't see any improvement.

I have olive complexion so the viti is very noticeable.  I'm losing hope as time goes along and the viti has accelerated the past few years.  I just may go with the depigmentation route, if this last attempt fails.

Thanks for reading my long write up.  I'm glad I found this great site and support group.  JJ

  • JJ don't give up , you are definitely on the right path. Have you read a book by doctor Leopoldo Montez called vitiligo - a nutritional therapy. He has many case studies in it with similar supplementation. You may have better results with a b complex and other omega 3 oils like fish oil. The broader you supplement the better chance you have and if you work with your herbalist you can double check you are not over replacing etc. I have had some success with supplements and gluten free diet, it's very slow but I did prove to myself it's possible to repigment even when docs said it wouldn't happen!
    • Thank you Erin.  I will check out the book.

  • Hope You Found cure lol .......
